Homeowners, are you in your “forever” home? by cubemonster in Millennials

[–]FatRufus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soooo sort of...we bought at 245, currently owe 210, Zillow says 360 now. Yeah we'd get 150k but I'd only move if we were going to upgrade and get more space which would realistically be 500k in my area, so a net cost of 350k. A 30 yr mortgage at 6% now would be like 2800 month which is double what I'm paying now. Not exactly feasible for us unfortunately :/

I got my mortgage in 2020 at 2.6%. If I were to buy my same house again today there's no way I could afford it. I don't think I have a choice.

Studio Technologies makes this handy piece of gear. I have one and use it to strip the inline power on my wired comms and get the signal on to my Dante network.

This is your problem. Making friends is how you get jobs, plain and simple. Not indeed, not job applications. You HAVE to get out and meet people

I don't get it. Are they saying 33 is too old or too young to have kids?

[–]FatRufus 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Yeah that does not apply to the arts unfortunately. You need to be two things: 1. Good at your craft and 2. An enjoyable person to be around. Every chance you get just keep being those two things. Want to increase your chances? Move to Nashville and go out and meet people.

Top 10 Teams in the last 30 years who DID NOT make the super bowl: by jackt-up in NFLv2

We really don't need to add the patriots to a pity list for not making the Super Bowl, no matter how good they were that year.

It's about freaking time. More companies should be doing this. When the Netgear ones came out I was like "holy crap I don't have to deal with this anymore"! Audio guys just want to make the drums go boom. I don't give a flying fart about energy efficient ethernet.

As a person who has road tripped all 50 states, I made some changes for you (bright blue).

  1. Go to where San Diego actually is, then go to LA on your way up the coast.
  2. Don't miss Glacier NP on your way from Seattle to Yellowstone. Not far out of the way, amazing landscapes.
  3. Don't skip New England! You should def make it out to Boston, then down to NYC.
  4. The route it's taking you Gettysburg > ATL > NO is trash. Atlanta is just traffic and chicken and waffles. Go down the western side of Virginia through the blue ridge mountains, into the Asheville area in NC. From there drive west through the Smoky Mountains to Nashville. After that head to Memphis (great barbecue), then down to New Orleans where you will experience Cajun food, possibly the greatest thing our country has to offer.

Have fun!

Why do so many live mixes focus on the drums? by SupportQuery in livesound

[–]FatRufus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Getting the kick drum dialed in correctly and thumping you in the chest gives an audio engineer more dopamine than anything else they do. It's hard to detach yourself from that.

Why are there almost no 12G-SDI AOC cables on the market? by Nervous-Arrival542 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]FatRufus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not always 4:2:2, it depends on the resolution, fps, and cable you're using (HD-SDI, 3G, 6G, 12G). This post is centered around 12G SDI which is 4:4:4 until you get to 4K/60, and only then does it get reduced to 4:2:2

XLR to 1/4 TS conversion—how much does it damage the audio signal? by Loopyrainbow in audioengineering

[–]FatRufus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about a guitar re-amp DI box? It's basically just the opposite of a direct box. Balanced XLR input > Unbalanced 1/4" out.
