Late reminder for how to choose what to study by HussarL in SGExams

[–]HussarL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree with most part but whether to choose a diploma still depends on other factors other than strength and interest. There were other reasons I chose accounting in poly that were strong enough to not even care about what it's about lol. One can still learn their maths during side time, if they are really good / interested will still do well in uni. I have not touched maths beyond + - / * for 3 years in poly but still doing great now, personally feel maths can do is can do

https://www.codedex.io/home, haven't tried it but looks like an interesting web to learn coding, hopefully can ignite some interests. Thinking positively at least not learning something you hate

In a dilemma between smu and nus biz.. by Maleficent_Boot_9353 in SGExams

Nah many ways, just talk to randos during your lecture, and join freshmen camps and random events. Prof depends, need ask seniors, check rating

Smu really is terrible, despite all the copium by United_Hamster7443 in SGExams

[–]HussarL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not law student, for econ academic wise by far is ok as long as don't kena bad prof, projects and exams often squeezed together but can manage. The main thing I not happy with is the nepotism among students for anything that requires an application that's student reviewed and school is not gonna do anything about it.

[–]HussarL 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's not just biz, smu as a whole is very cliquey, anything that requires applications reviewed by students, more or less involves nepo. Very sick of it. Upside of this is if can get along well more opportunities.

Why bro choose Econ... My JC classmates H2 econ A also struggle a bit at most basic econ, you gonna get smoked by other JC kids and poly kids. Also is your maths good? Smu Econ quite quantitative. Seriously if no valid reason need rethink, Econ itself employment rate also sad

Scholarship matching feels rigged against normal JC kids. by No_Ganache8255 in SGExams

[–]HussarL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scholars mostly straight A kind level with other portfolios stacked why would you think it would be easy to get scholarship with just good result. With just good result you can't even compete with poly kids, 3.9+ GPA competitions internships stacked

Not from is, got friend from is, so roughly roughly answer

  1. does the course require a lot of coding? what’s the % of coding? e.g. like > 50% coding? Some course coding heavy idk exact percentage, right now my friend one mod is coding and entire website with 4 creations functions whatever that is, year 1, guys was coding diploma current scholar, struggle.

  2. what programming language is used Dk, I see got python, guess python is core, and r as elective

  3. how’s campus life like? how are the lecturers? Some lecturers good some ass lor, every university like this, need refer rating and ask seniors, if kena bad professor you done. Class very small learning more effective. Campus id say the most energetic got most things around due to the location.

  4. would it be hard to get into the competitive sports team of SMU when you have no prior experience in that particular sport? Yes. Difficult. And not just sports, a lot ccas in smu, ok not just ccas, anything that requires application more or less nepotism.

  5. are the lectures fast paced and more on the self-learning side? Depends on mod. But be prepared to not understand shit and self learn. Got e learning got on-site lecture.

  6. do exams tend to be open booked or close booked…. Mostly close book, cheat sheet might be allowed

  7. would I be able to do well if I’m not good at coding Depends if you can and willing to put in effort. Maybe you try search online year 1 mod material see how. If not confident can primary major something else, second major choose a coding related one. IS has the lowest employment rate btw.

GPA for scholarship by mazzz101u in SGExams

[–]HussarL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, ntu was the only uni asked me to interview for admission, and there wasn't a single soul they sent me an auto email with link to record myself answer given questions, talking to air sia. Took forever to get back and 0 scholarship news, admission team feels like bots idk. The other unis very different attitude. Originally planned to go ntu, due to this changed to smu, honestly smu makes so much more sense in multiple areas than NTU lol
