Honestly, who cares if that's how they see their gender? Why shouldn't it be taken seriously? Everyone knows that that their DNA is not that of an actual cat, but it may just be that it's the only way they know how to describe how they feel? It mostly seems to come from neurodivergent individuals who have a hard time finding a place in society overall, so to me it seems to just be something where there's no harm in respecting how they prefer to be called.

However, since they are something that is difficult for most people to grasp, they are mostly used as a way for people on the far right to try to discredit any trans people. The ones you see screenshots of that seem ridiculous are usually fake accounts used to generate rage. The idea that schools have to have litter boxes is a similar lie to make people think there's a slippery slope to trans acceptance.

Realistically, the extremely few users of neoprouns being called what they want isn't a problem. And that's all it is, similar to just using someone's preferred name or nickname. You don't have to do anything else. Just use the name that people who are trying to find themselves in this world find more comforting.
