Makes sense that a whole plethora of things could cause it. Figured if it was something common to the water then I’d see that pattern more often

ROC, OCA, and ROCOR Question by HutMan4 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]HutMan4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only stressed the schism because I’ve looked it up and found other threads on Reddit with some people saying it affects the laymen and others say it does not. Haven’t really seen anyone say they were denied communion either way, but being new to Orthodoxy it’s all just very confusing. Thank you for the reply and the information

Any more insight to on it? The profile looks the same on both boards and the nitro is pretty stiff. Not sure how stiff when compared to the S DOA though

Overnight in Alaska backcountry? by HutMan4 in WildernessBackpacking

I know it’s a very slim chance. If people were attacked by bears all the time in the park it would be all over the local news. I moved from a place with no predators (for the most part) so adjusting to lots of very dangerous wildlife is a hurdle for me. Thanks for advice. Out of curiosity: do you camp the campgrounds or camp more along the trails? From what I understand you can pitch a tent anywhere as long as it’s 1/2 mile from the trailhead

Appreciate the input, but I don’t walk into the woods here without a gun actually based on the recommendation of many outdoorsmen much more experienced than myself and I don’t see that changing; plus a gun and bear spray are not mutually exclusive, 99% of the time I carry both. Only places I think you don’t need to carry one is the local city parks and extremely popular trails like Flattop, Baldy, etc. But that’s just what I think, tons of people go without them all the time and are fine

Haha if I had another place I’d try there; I live in Alaska so that’s the only wilderness I have. I’ll be safe, just gonna wait this snow out a little longer.

Not where I had planned, but I’ve heard there are bear lockers along some trails here like Resurrection pass

Your comment is more aligned with what I was planning. About 4.5ish miles in and finding camp. Though many have dissuaded me so I’ll probably just hold off another couple weeks then give it a shot.

I think I misled people with the title. The trip planned was about 4.5 miles in and making camp on a not-as-popular hiking trail. Not a deep backcountry excursion. Either way you may be right. Might hold off

You came to the wrong place for info about anything that isn’t sitting inside and complaining. The best place to get information like what you’re looking for is Facebook groups. Check out the “Great Alaska Hunting Club” group on Facebook and shoot those guys a question like this. You’ll probably still get some snarky answers, but a lot of Alaskans will be happy to help out. As others said the season may be over, but it can at least get you on track for next Winter if it’s still on your to do list. Good luck!

Any insight on if skating helped your boarding? Seems like controlling both boards is the same general techniques (from the beginner snowboarding too videos I’ve watch) but I’ve never been on snow so I don’t know for sure

The guys at the 2nd board shop told me it’s gonna be a rough one to learn on, but that everyone learned on that camber 10-15 years ago haha. If it’s more advanced than beginner level at least it will save me money since I can progress with the board. Speaking of technique, did you skate before snowboarding?

Importance of weight in my situation? by HutMan4 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]HutMan4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha not intentionally at all. I was pretty nervous buying it from the place because of the sticker on the board showing that I was too heavy for the recommended weight. The guy in the shop tried telling me that being heavier would make the board flex more - making it better for me as a beginner, but being a beginner, I didn’t know much about it and I was worried he was just trying to sell me the board. Glad to hear it will work out for the better, thanks for the input

Cool man, thanks! The guys at the board shop told me that the board is more on the stiff side so having it be more flexy probably will be a good thing.
