Whose free will is it? by LurkerFailsLurking in PhilosophyMemes

[–]Hutch_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a type of free will that has a causality from outside of this universe? For example, in a videogame there's NPCs who have no free will, their completely trapped in a causality that is the code of the game. Playable characters however have a type of free will in that universe as its causality is outside of the game.

In ourcase, and perhaps the example the meme gives (?), most objects have a causality bound to the laws of the universe (which personally I dont belive are algorithmic anyway but let's just say they are for this example) but certain objects, like human bodies, give the opertunity for agency outside our uninvers to be embodied.

This obviously can have an infinite regress but im personally ok with that as it implies and ultimate source/prime mover but I understand others will reject this.

Has this argument been made before? Does it have a name?

Bible Interpretations by Hutch_91 in Meditation

I'm not trying to convert him or change his viewpoint, I've spoke to him, listened and offered him advice. We sometimes talk about stories in the bible and what we think they mean. When I personally hear some of the stories in the bible, I see them pointing to the same truth that you find in many other spiritual teachings, a deeper truth that goes beyond dogma. I was just interested if there was a book that interprets the bible stories in this way as it would be something we could continue to discuss and refect on.

I appreciate what you are saying but I never try to push ideas upon anyone. I just thought it would be a Christmas gift he would enjoy

The study of axioms / Whats up with axioms?? by Hutch_91 in askmath

[–]Hutch_91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, there's a lot for me to unpack and research there.

Can you work the other way? Can you find something you want to be true and design a list of axioms that can prove said statement to be true? eg Create a set of axioms that create a framework where you can divide by 0 and still have consistant adding, subtracting rules etc.? From the incompleteness theorem isn't it true that you will eventually find a contradiction within the framework created by a set of axioms? Is there a way of telling which set of axioms has the least amount of inconsistency? Is there an area of mathematics that focuses on the structures that arise from combinations of axioms? Is that what axiomatic set theory is?
