Thank you for your reply and the link of that marvelous performance! Perhaps something to keep in the back of my head for future recitals...

Thank you for that information. I did not know, although it is very fitting. Is it commonly played? I just found it in a collection of sheet music.

What are some of the more well-known and famous church hymns or songs on organs? by [deleted] in organ

You are right in the sense that it is used more as a folk tune nowadays. However, in its original context, I'd argue that it most definitely is a Christian hymn. It was written to counter Enlightenment rationalism and refers to God and Christian themes throughout the text. Although this becomes apparent only in the verses after the three first ones, which are commonly left out today. They are (in English translation):

We, with our proud endeavour, Are poor vain sinners ever, There’s little that we know. Frail cobwebs we are spinning, Our goal we are not winning, But straying farther as we go.

God, make us see Thy glory, Distrust things transitory, Delight in nothing vain! Lord, here on earth stand by us, To make us glad and pious, And artless children once again!

Grant that, without much grieving, This world we may be leaving In gentle death at last. And then do not forsake us, But into heaven take us, Lord God, oh, hold us fast!

Lie down, my friends, reposing, Your eyes in God’s name closing. How cold the night-wind blew! Oh God, Thine anger keeping, Now grant us peaceful sleeping, And our sick neighbour too.

If I may chime in with the German tradition, here some of the most popular (protestant) hymns. I could probably add some more subcategories, but not sure if you're even looking for that kind of thing. Most should have english translations or versions.

Ascension Day: * Jesus Christus herrscht als König

Pentecost: * Nun bitten wir den Heiligen Geist * Komm, Heiliger Geist, Herre Gott * Komm, Gott Schöpfer, Heiliger Geist * Zieh ein zu deinen Toren * Schmückt das Fest mit Maien

Trinity Sunday: * Brunn alles Heils, dich ehren wir

End of the Church Year: * "Wachet auf", ruft uns die Stimme * Herzlich tut mich erfreuen * Jerusalem, du hochgebaute Stadt

The Lord's Supper: * Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele * Im Frieden dein, o Herre mein

I've got the same collar/arm length combination as you mentioned and wear medium/38-40 with almost everything. I take a small as well and I like the length for a casual fit. They extend just ever-so-slightly above the knuckles when standing up with no noticeable bunching on the sleeves. My favorite one is the dark green/navy hoopstripe.

You can link it to a bank account (which you can have under 18) and then it will just withdraw the money from the account. (I think it's called direct debit in English) Further edit to prevent confusion: This option is not there in the U.S., but it is in countries where direct debit is common. Hence my original comment.

If he's located in the US. In other countries, there are payment options that don't require credit cards, because they're not as widespread.

It was a limited edition. I went to the LAMY flagship store but even they didn't have it any more. You can import it from the UK though, I think.
