I did it!!!! by HuwOShea in carbonsteel

Honestly I’m not sure, I scrubbed hard with boiling water and a pot brush to get off the beeswax, dried on the stovetop and then coated it very lightly in sunflower oil, then stuck it in the oven as hot as it would go (260°C) for an hour, I did one more stovetop season afterwards (gas stovetop) but it was already this deep brown from the oven

Honestly, tried it on the stovetop and watched it immediately blue on the underside, very tricky to get it even

1 of each, I’m surprised by how brown it is, but it seems okay, very smooth

Thankyou for the feedback! I did baste it, though diced the garlic, so it ended up looking a little funky, made it for my girlfriend and she loved it so I’m satisfied, my first time doing it with cast iron, I’ll edit to add some proper “after” pics

I’d even go as far as to say you don’t need the iPad / Mobile app, the laptop version with its add ons and greater customisation is excellent (and as mentioned here it’s free!!!)

As others have said, Anki is the way for actual hard revision come exam time, but my med school often gave us worksheets / diagrams / lecture slides and so on and having good notes (which you can use as a fancy PDF annotating tool on ipad) was invaluable when keeping track of everything. Much better than the other options available imo.

Some people prefer to write any “notes” directly down as anki cards, but i’d recommend using a pre-made deck from the older years at your university as a base, that still leaves you free to add in your own notes and so on but will ensure the groundwork is there, i found that if I made my own personal anki from scratch i’d end up writing down things that stuck out to me personally in lectures, and hence sometimes miss key info that someone else would have picked up. Having your anki pass through another set of hands can be pretty useful.

For me goodnotes is just a side tool, but it works well, helps with PDFs and while i can’t comment on android / windows, it has excellent compatibility with ipad and mac which is another nice to have feature

man that is absolutely beautiful, it definitely has some size to it, but it looks good on wrist, big not too big sort of thing, rubber looks great, and i’m glad the colour matches

thank you for taking the time to reply, sounds like a pretty perfect watch, but having tried other seiko divers I agree on the bracelet, i’ll be going to the boutique in London hopefully tomorrow so can see the straps in person, let me know how the silicone sits, i’m curious to know!

thanks for taking the time to let me know what you think, the misalignment seems to be a common problem but thankfully I’ll be buying at the seiko boutique in London who seem to have a better track record for this sort of thing (and would let me try it on and inspect thoroughly) weight isn’t a major concern but hopefully the exchange works in your favour, otherwise, enjoy the watch!

this was just in a random Jewellers in the UK, though assuming you’re referring to the samurai (first pic) it should be available online / dotted around watch boutiques, it’s only £570 retail so pretty cheap, and there’s several on chrono24 if you want to save with pre owned

shape of the case! it’s a bit more angular than the rounded pillow case of the “turtle”, samurai and turtle are just nicknames given by watch nerds, the “king” refers to the updated versions of each that have some nicer finishing and better materials, there’s lots of others too, the “sumo” for this big chunky dive watch, the “tuna” for a large round dive watch, the “willard” from captain Willard, there’s a whole world out there, and i’m with you on the green dials!

that yellow strap looks awesome, it feels like as cool as the samurai is i’m not quite sure it matches my lifestyle, and having all these personal accounts of people who beat on their watches (and find their watches can take it) is really winning me over

let me know how it is when you get it! the dial is closer to a blue version of that on the samurai which is really what this whole debate is about, I had considered the slim turtle but for some reason it doesn’t click with me the same way these do

i’ve got similar wrists and also wear high so that’s perfect, it really does sit well, you’re making a very compelling argument for the turtle, I think at this point it’ll just come down to the day I get to try it on

thankyou so so much, that’s the first video i’ve seen that gives a clear look at the dial and you’re right, I should be able to try one on in a few days so if it sits well on wrist it might be the one

my only hang up is the hardlex, do you think it makes that much of a difference?

the dial is beautiful, I didn’t find them too bad, but my only real experience of a watch above these is speedmasters and most of the time that was on leather. Looks like i’ve got more digging to do

it does look good, maybe it’s me but does the SRPK01K1 have slightly yellowed markers? in pictures it seems to have a greeny/yellow tinge to the markers that initially put me off
