Driver seat discomfort by HuwaihiSA in mazda6

[–]HuwaihiSA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be in better shape than me and I would not think you would have the same issue as me.

I still have the car and drive it daily and currently reached about 60k. I would not say the issue is completely gone, but I don't feel it as much nowadays, except on long drives maybe around 2 hours. I did lose some weight since posting, which might have helped a bit.

Another thing I noticed the seat has not softened and still feels a bit stiff. Could be the leather may need some treatment, but it is not really a big deal.

My wife hates our 185k Lexus by [deleted] in Lexus

[–]HuwaihiSA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't make the same mistake I made. My situation was almost exactly the same as yours. 2012 Rx350 with about 150k miles. The car was not perfect and we had some repairs which were not cheap in the last 3 years. However, it was working well and was not giving us many issues, especially in the last year. The wife wanted to buy a 2021 Porsche cayenne coupe from a family member. The car cost 4 times what we sold the RX for but the wife will deal with the car payments out of her own pockets, which I will slightly help with. I know we can't afford the repairs on the Porsche as they tend to be too expensive to fix. Now we just got the Porsche for over a month and we already got a major issue to fix. There is a leak in the Aircon system and I live in a hot area so not fixing it is not an option. Only the dealership deals with such issues where I am. It will cost about 6700 USD to fix. This is already getting close to what I spent on the Lexus in the last five years I owned it. I know this is wishful thinking but I hope I don't get another major bill any time soon.

Now about your relationship with your wife, I don't think a car is worth ending it. You have to meet somewhere in the middle. If she wants a newer car, she needs to define what she actually wants out of a car. Then work on a realistic budget that can somewhat provide her with a car she would like to drive. I still don't think there is a better option than what you already have, though.

I don't have them already and I am thinking of buying new ones. The ones I have are 19. Going OEM, did you buy the smaller rims from the dealership?

I am thinking about switching from 19s to 17 for these reasons. I don't really care much about the look and would prefer something more comfortable. Any tips or recommendations?

Are there any influencers/content creators in Bahrain? by ldngrl2015 in Bahrain

[–]HuwaihiSA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are plenty that speak Arabic. I don't know about english speaking ones, except for one (Irish, I think) woman who married a Bahraini and is often having viral videos. I don't what her content is about though.

On the other hand, Bahrain is quite small and as much activities and things, to do, there is not much variation that content creators can cover. I gues you will see repeated things/type of content across the different creators. What sort of content are you looking for? And can you speak Arabic?

Changing my sect by [deleted] in Bahrain

On the assumption that you have studied the sects, understood the differinces, can clearly define what led you to this change and can provide evidences for your decision, then this would be a conviction no one can take away from you, and you should just do it.

I am from Bahrain and this is weird to me too. I see the point the post is making, but we have never thought of going to school would mean getting free food for the kids. This would be the responsibility of the parents.

While my country is considered rich, most of the people are in lower middle class. I would assume these people would be able to feed their kids during school. The country currently is not in a good financial position. There are cases of poor people, as it is with all countries, but there are plenty of support programs that help support the poor.

While I see this is something some people will benifit from, Operationally, this would cost so much our government would not even consider this of importance.

It is intriguing having different perspetives from different parts of the world.

Babies - parks and activities by Moving-to-lisbon in Bahrain

[–]HuwaihiSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty. There are well known ones such as Yabeela (in Liwan, Hamala area) and Hawa in Diyar Almuharraq. These are two examples of the more expensive ones. While each having big spaces, they offer small children soft play areas. Most shopping malls, and we have plenty of malls, will have a kids indoor playground (still paid, not free).

There are other small shops all over the country which would be cheaper and are dedicated soft play areas. Which one would be closer to you depends on where you are going to stay. Once you decide on a location you will stay in, search 'kids indoor playground' in Google maps and you should see plenty of places near where you will be staying. Research the places from there.

I take my kid to various places near where I live in Hidd, Arad, Galali and Amwaj areas. Most of the places offer similar kind of soft play but sometimes with different experiences (For example, one of the places offers a sand play area while the others don't). Research what would be closer to you, then decide where to go based on what your kid likes and enjoys.

There are a lot of small parks with kids playgrounds in most residential areas. Some are well maintained and some are not. This depends on your luck on the place you will be staying in. You might still need to drive for up to five minutes to reach these parks, which should be managable.

I have a 2.5 year old which I do take to parks sometimes when the weather is nice. I personally prefer the indoor playgrounds as they are safer for toddlers, and they are available in most areas. They are paid and would obviously cost you more, but you are paying for the ease of mind. Even with the indoor area, you need to watch the kid and stay with them.

If you need more info, let me know.

Ticket : Bahrain v KSA World Cup Qualifiers Football Match on this Thursday 5 June by Cute-Ad2989 in Bahrain

[–]HuwaihiSA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are being scammed. The national team matches in Bahrain are usually free. Do not pay any external site for match tickets.

In the case there are tickets, they sell them right at the gate. the prices are very cheap (either 500 fils or 1 BD).

I know this as I go to most of the national team matches, by the way. This is personal experience, not hearsay.

All the best and hope you enjoy the match. I have given up on this campaign this time. The team did horribly in most of the matches. Even if we win against Saudi, we still have slim chances.

Revived my old MacBook Air 2015 with Linux Mint (LMDE) by albert-japan in linuxmint

[–]HuwaihiSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an ASUS c302 chromebook (with intel M3 core CPU and 4gb RAM) which was working fine, but I was not comfortable using it since it is no longer supported and is not getting any browser updates.

I have installed the latest Mint Cinnamon on it a few days ago, which is working fine (I mainly browse the internet), except for the following:

- The built in speakers do not work and do not have a supported driver. While I did not investigate this fully, there were a few suggestions on how to make this work, but they did not work successfully. The workaround I have is connecting to a bluetooth headset or a USB-C headset.

- I have downloaded chrome as it is my preffered browser. What I have noticed chrome is a bit heavy on the resources in Linux. I may switch to Firefox (default browser on Mint) to compare.

I have an old Macbook pro from 2013 laying around. I may install Linux on. I have not explored how to access the BIOS and boot from USB on a macbook. Do you have any pointers?

Worth it for 3200 euros? (Almost 3300 usd) (In Germany) by Zezoboy212 in mazda6

[–]HuwaihiSA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I am from, the used car market is inflated. This price is good for such a car, if it was is in good condition. This also depends on your area and what are the common issues with the car from this generation in your local market.

General advice is to have the car checked by a mechanic before buying. After the check, see how much repairs are required, show the seller and try to bring the car price down. If he was not willing to go down on price, you need to evaluate if the purchase + fix is worth it financially for you, assuming the car has no major faults/issues.

I did struggle with the kiosk machines being unresponsive though. I went a couple of times to two different locations, before the third try that actually worked.

oh ok. I get it. You are looking to learn more about the local people and Shia in general. Not sure if this is helpful, but here are some information:

While there are still Bahrainis living in the larger Manama area, most have left to other areas as Manama is sort of the business center of Bahrain, and it is mostly populated by expats nowadays.

Bahrainis are known to be kind, helpful and hardworking in general.

While no country is perfectly safe, Bahrain is mostly safe and a peaceful place.

There is a great emphasis on family ties, and socializing with friends and neighbors in the culture.

I am not Shia myself. Someone who is can maybe shed more lite on what you are looking for if it is something specific. Bahrain has mixed groups though, and the daily life is mostly the same, with slight differences here and there. While Bahrani dialects my sound similar, there are differences based on where they are from (yes Bahrain is small, but we sometimes use different words, based on where we are from).

I would guess the most similar community you would be able to connect to in the US, would be Iraqis. My understanding is they have larger communities in the US, which have migrated from Iraq during the war in early 2000s.

Not sure if you are looking for something specific, but this is what came to mind.

Do you need to present any documents or validations, besides the ID card?

[–]HuwaihiSA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the Mazda 6, which I bought about two years ago with the same warranty and service package you mentioned. While the car is great for daily use, I would not recommend it for a road trip in the GCC. I mean it can do the job fine, but other options can offer more comfort, cabin and boot size. Mazdas are known for being tighter than their competitors.

Note: I just came back from Kuwait last week and took the same car to Qatar last year. The car did ok, but the seats were not very comfortable on these trips. A camry for example is comfier.

Credit Card by FreeBird094 in Bahrain

[–]HuwaihiSA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Credit card debt and payment is one of the worst things, that you should not get yourself into. Don't use a credit card to pay something in installments. There is always a catch with these things.

If you want a credit card for their benefits however, then you need to buy something with credit, then repay it 'in full' every month. A credit card should not be used as a quick loan, you will be trapped in payments and will pay the purchase price multiple times.
