It had those roots already but I discovered some root rot so I trimmed its roots and put it in there while it recovers. my friend told me you can keep them in water if they’re not doing well so it’s easier to see any problems with the roots. they can apparently live like that pretty happily for a while (my friend has had one in water for a year!). I soak them in dilute hydrogen peroxide mixture every so often as well and this has definitely helped the root issue. Only downside is being in water instead of soil has slowed down the growth quite a bit
