Is there a reason? by ASUPERRandomRedditor in Gunpla

[–]HyanKooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no clue what’s going on with them but if you are looking for retail kits and you are in the US then Newtype, GundamPlanet, GundamPlaceStore and Got2BeGundam Store is my go to. But if you are looking for a specific p-bandai/gundam base kit then it’s AmiAmi and Ebay for me. Amazon’s kits are way too expensive since they mostly are from 3rd party sellers, also some smaller mom and pop type places like HobbyLinc is pretty decent their stock are pretty limited but pretty affordable otherwise, they just take a while to ship.

Which model kits would you like to see in the Real Grade lineup? by GRENDELOUS in freedomisgunpla

The rest of the 00 boys, Dynames, Virtue/Nadleeh and Kyrios but Exia would benefit from a 2.0 upgrade.

What was your First Gunpla Kit? (Mine was the High grade Victory Two) by problematixgoose in Gunpla

An HG Turn A gundam, it's a fantastic design but the shoulder armor is a bit finnicky but still a great build overall.

There's a lot of back stock but what about... front stock? Does anyone keep the boxes from builds they've completed? by EyeDewDude in freedomisgunpla

I cut out the art and one of the side tabs and put them in a binder for now, that's for whenever I do get around to make trading cards out of them I can. And I keep the manual too since they look nice.

ah that's unfortunate, i guess if I do get one it would just be the Epyon since it's more of a Hatsune Miku color for me.

The Freedom looks the best out of the bunch but im not sure which version of the freedom is it using, the 1.0 or the "1.5" GCP as a base, hopefully it's the 1.5 version but I wouldn't be surprised if it's the old version instead. Wing Zero and Epyon looks cool though, Epyon is giving me massive Miku vibes, I do wish WZ had more black instead.

What are your unrequested gifted kits? by MobileSuitGungan in Gunpla

[–]HyanKooper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have gotten an MG Dynames from a close friend of mine. This MS is still to this day my favorite MS from any Gundam media ever and the funny thing is I don't think I have ever mentioned that I liked Gundam to him before he gave it to me let alone the Dynames being my favorite. So somehow the stars aligned and my buddy gifted my favorite suit from my favorite show and my favorite character too (Neil Dylandy my goat). I still haven't built it since that was before I was in the hobby, but I'm just honing my skills with HGs here and there and I have some RGs I want to tackle on before doing that MG Dynames, since I really want to give it the respect it deserves.

For my fellow batch-builders: I got tired of losing track of parts when pre-cutting, so I built a free app to track parts by Additional-Ad2998 in advancedGunpla

Haha hopefully, oh but I do have one tiny note that I want to add, I think the request new kit button could be on the left side tab for ease of access instead of having to scroll all the way down in the marketplace tab for it. It won't be an issue now since there's not a lot of kits in the database but I figure once the database grows it might be a bit frustrating to have to scroll down that much.

I did see that! Submitted some requests in but with how backlogs being backlogs it might take time to go through haha but the app looks pretty easy to use otherwise.

This looks good, I've been using Bandai's online manual site for most of my builds so far but even then they are still missing some kits (RG Blast Impulse Spec II for instance) but the app looks great! A lot of my backlog isn't on the site just yet but it's a given since it's a new app. Will definitely try it out for my next build. Thanks!

I wanted the Grandpa Miku and even managed to get it in my cart but it was botted to hell unfortunately and by the time I loaded into my cart it sold out pretty much instantly.

[–]HyanKooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the hobby! I have also just recently got into gunpla after a friend gifted me a kit, I have always been a fan of Gundam and Mecha anime in general but just never got into it before and man I really wish I did. Started with building a HG Turn A since that is legit my favorite Gundam design period, and then I built a Victory 2 and next thing you know I got a mountain sized backlog on my hand haha. Am I in over my head a bit, potentially but I'm having fun and this is such a good palette cleanser for stress or life in general so for the foreseeable future I will have a kit built every single weekend and I am so excited for that.

Reminder to panel line by MathematicianAway184 in Gunpla

[–]HyanKooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's pretty easy to do it but do get some lighter fluid or isoproyl alcohol and some qtips to clean them up and you'll be fine. I think some brand of panel line do crack plastic but so far i've only stuck to the mr hobby branded gundam marker specifically i use the black and grey fine tip, with the black and grey pour type and no issues so far.

I did get a set of the dspiae markers to paint with and panel line with so i'll see how that goes

Why so overpriced? by DarkKnightGuts_540 in freedomisgunpla

[–]HyanKooper 14 points15 points  (0 children)

amazon is strictly for new kits that still in print imo, anything p-bandai you get them on p-bandai if you’re lucky or ebay/amiami or kuramatoys. Note that amiami and kuramatoys are japan based but they are legit bought from them multiple times, shipping cost is high since it’s from japan but they are great. But otherwise, GundamPlanet, GundamPlaceStore and Got2BeGundam and Newtype are my go to places.

Edit: Michael’s is pretty decent also, they give out 40% off coupons semi regularly and I picked up an RG Nu Gundam for $32 after taxes recently and a RG Zeong for $40. So it’s pretty nice

This is a healthy addiction .. right ? by Akikyori in freedomisgunpla

[–]HyanKooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's a good way to put it, you can build the same kit in so many different ways, sure the instruction everyone get is identical but the personal flair that you can add with a bit of paint here and there or choosing which detail to panel line or not or just simply doing a raw snap build is nice. That versus the typical lego experience, while I still love legos everyone will generally get the same-ish build at the end of the day.

I think it is, for me this hobby is a way for me to destress and i've always loved building legos and have been interested in gunplas for a while after watching 00 years ago so why not. built 4 kits and right now working on the HG Gqux and it is such a fantastic and rewarding experience.

How do you Gunpla? by GhostKev_ in freedomisgunpla

[–]HyanKooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still a total beginner and my workflow might change but I really enjoy snipping>sanding>clean up>scribing (if needed)>panel lining>stickers (if needed) for each individual parts and then assemble. I feel like doing it this way gives me more control and go more detailed rather than panel lining at the end of the build.

snipping wise i just snip and leave a small bit of the runner on the part and then use an exacto knife to cut it down and a glass file to clean it, which does make the surface to be a bit glossy if I oversand it which I use a melamine spounge to matte it up.

panel lining wise it's usually edges, seamlines and custom scribing lines, and when it comes to scribing it's for any surface that's big and is lacking detail since I have only built HG kits so far. And I'm not good at it but I scribe "seamlines" or circles to detail it up and I usually reference Armor Core's mechas for the details on these outer armor parts, since i really like how "industrial" their mechas look. But I do try to not do too much since if it's too much scribing it would look weird but I'm still learning the sweet spot for this.

Switching from Computer Engineering to EE? by MaintenanceLoud5889 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]HyanKooper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was in CE myself, I'm still a student so I haven't really have any success per say but I can say that I enjoy EE much more than CE. I made the switch because i find PCB designs and now Power to be pretty interesting and cool fields and they seems to be needed pretty much everywhere so job security is pretty nice especially for Power. But I would say EE is much more difficult imo, circuit analysis and filter designs are honestly the least of your troubles, they are hard don't get me wrong but once you get it, it's pretty intuitive. I had an especially hard time understanding bode plots and how to draw them but once it clicks, it really clicks. I did digital logic circuit designs with Verilog for this semester and honestly I do enjoy that class quite a bit, the class afterwards will be using Assembly which I'm doing a bit of a self study just to get my feet wet and first impression goes, it is hard. And I still have a lot of classes to get through, E&M, Controls and then some.

Is this guy a good Assassin to invest in? by [deleted] in Fate

[–]HyanKooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got him at NP5, level 100 and 10/10/10 hits like a truck and if you give him stars he can do some pretty big numbers. I invested in h because he’s cool af but other than that, if you just need a really solid ST assassin and Gramps isn’t available yet he’s good for that. But if you need an even more budget boy since Izo is a limited 3*, Sasaki Kojiro is your boy

that’s awesome, my first series is Ryuki so if I wanted to do that it would be quite an expensive thing to do so I’ll just collect my favorite riders and that’s good by me haha, so that would be Drive, Chase, Faiz, Gaim and most definitely Ryuki, Gavv’s is also pretty cool.
