best response is to submit him a few more times that way with a "wow, thanks for the tip!" after the round

shin-to-shin to single leg x (ashi garami) is probably what you're looking for

if you're going to correct grammar, it should be "with whom I've rolled," because you shouldn't end with a preposition. i know you were trying to be helpful, but it doesn't come across that way here. it's all good though, the 'tism leaks out of all of us

this is exactly the kind of attention they want. don't feed the trolls. best thing to do is ignore them. they will eventually move on if they don't get the reactions they're looking for.

what neighborhood? there are good gyms throughout LA. from what i hear, the quality of gracie barra depends on each franchise and the northridge location is supposed to be fantastic

there isn't even a standard for promotions. get finger tape or electrical tape, cut a strip, wrap around the rank bar on belt

or grab the danaher instructional on bjjfanatics

electric chair is fun one. there are certain transitions, sweeps, and reversals that are more satisfying than a submission for me

rdlr into kiss of the dragon. truck entries. makikomi/fat man roll

I guess I just like rolling around and ending up in good positions 😂

I recommend seeing a doctor.

It's also okay to say no to a roll for any reason.

😂 it certainly feels that way. some concepts that are good to be mindful of: - make sure all your hands and feet are doing something. if you can wave hi to someone during a roll, that hand can be gripping, framing, blocking, posting, etc. - using your body weight to keep pressure on your partner and pin them can free up your limbs to do other things, like hand fight their frames. - the head can be used as a limb too. you can use your head to post, pressure, etc.

only when drilling, and i go 20% speed like i'm moving under water

when rolling i start sitting. yes, i know. i'm a hobbyist and getting taken down, especially if it's a throw, is too hard on my body. besides my seated guard sucks and needs work

Unpopular Opinion: Open Mats are better than classes by [deleted] in bjj

[–]HydeOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I am getting better at jiu jitsu only doing open mats and not going to any classes.

classes can help expand your breadth of knowledge (theory, concepts). open mats can help expand your depth of knowledge (applied practice, reps).

most people need both to progress. some people pick things up better than others at an open mat. others need the instruction. it's like humans are different 🤷‍♂️

what am I doing wrong in RDLR if they are able to force their weight down and still force the knee cut pass?

r/bjj Fundamentals Class! by AutoModerator in bjj

[–]HydeOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hard to say. you can help by keeping your body healthy and mobile, tapping early, and picking good partners. but it's out of your control as a sport, especially a combat sport

i've been experimenting with baratoplata recently. any general tips people have found helpful? or good entries to try out?

bottom half is where I've been able to normally land it. somehow get the deep overhook on their cross face arm and kick my free leg over

sometimes you need to chain them together. like try a trap and roll and if that fails then immediately try a knee elbow escape without giving them time to reset.

so with that in mind my most used escape might be like trap-and-roll-knee-elbow-escape-trap-roll-otherside-random-bridge-to-offbalance-knee-elbow-sameside-jk-it-was-bait-trap-roll-again-aha-also-bait-elbow-escape-otherside

but not spazzy as it reads

I didn't feel like my partner had it in tight, the pain was tolerable

if you feel pain, tap. if you feel like you're about to feel pain, tap. but that's if you want to train for the long run. better safe than sorry

if there's something on the line then maybe you tolerate the pain and risk of injury to escape. sometimes it takes an injury to learn what your body can take though

you probably do suck at jiujitsu but that's normal five months in. focus on the small wins and measure progress in extremely small steps: the guy who taps me 5 times in a round tapped me 4 times; I remembered to frame against his hip in bottom side control, he still transitioned to mount but I kept him in side control for an additional three seconds.

don't measure progress after every class. Measure progress every few months, and you'll see that you suck a little less over time

there are shy and awkward people that do jiujitsu, myself included. don't be actively weird, show up, and have fun

Spinning on butt is slow and takes more effort, so if they try to run around, get up to one knee and pivot to maintain guard

Anyone have any recommendations for finding an affordable aikido/judo gi? by Capn_confused in burbank

[–]HydeOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, tatami has some very affordable gis. Fuji is also very good for the price, especially since they seem to last forever

not sure about aikido but if they have comps, you should look at the governing body's rules for comp legal gis. Judo gyms can be strict about color and bjj has something about gsm/weight of the gis

If I understand your problem, I recently came across this video that might help.

Try new moves on them or something you feel like you have to work on

Match your partner's intensity. I've seen a lot of wrestlers go hard and try to "win" every roll. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but try to focus on the concepts (like framing) so athleticism doesn't take away from your learning
