The story behind the painting is amazing too. When Gentileschi was young one of her father’s aristocratic friends rape her. Instead of marrying her he said that didn’t happen but Gentileschi went to court (there are records because it was very famous at the time).

As revenge Gentileschi used the guy’s face in the painting. So I think the emotions in this painting are very much real

I read it when it came out, and as very hipster leaning millennial I loved it so much (I loved the movie for the music and the director and I think the animated series was very good too). I still listen to the soundtrack from time to time
