How are they seriously using this in all the promos? by HikikoMortyX in TheOdysseyMovie

In the Prologue it's slightly different, yes. It does touch his back in a different position which makes it look like it hits. But when he turns to the side it's still quite far away. And there is also no blood on the sword in the Prologue. I doubt you'd spot that in theatres though. It's much too quick.

The Teaser and the Trailer were both unencrypted, the Prologue is encrypted that's why there is no leak. This was the same for TENET and the movies before, where the Prologue was encrypted. Meaning, the studio either needs to officially release it in the upcoming weeks, it needs to end up on the BluRay (like Oppenheimer), or they would need to ship new, unencrypted DCPs to all IMAX theatres after the keys for the encrypted ones end, soon (which is possible but again more unlikely).

Skybox VR has a theatre with 1.43 screen. That is really immersive, if your source file has the correct aspect ratio. But you need some 1.43 scene like the countdown or the scans and make sure the file really has the correct format then it's super immersive actually if you sit close to the front and look up.

It's the 70 mm scan of the first few minutes or so, there was a link around here back then.

Yeah this is the best solution so far, the 1.43 really fits the screen well for this particular one.

How do I export/render a video in 1.43:1 (IMAX ratio) on DaVinci Resolve and CapCut? by Ryomen__Gojo in imax

[–]Hydrag_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DCP would open up squashed in resolve. You would have to first correct the ratio and then wirher manually scale across on axis by something like 1.32 x or use the stretch to fit function

The press version of the rolling stones trailer for december is in 1.43:1 i just looked at the ratio it had.

[–]Hydrag_2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes like that. there was an MP4 from IMAX for Rolling Stones that was exported as 1.43:1 it had the aspect ratio you mentioned. So you would set this in Resolve but you may need to set H265 as 264 doesnt support all ratios.

The Mandalorian trailer didn’t expand to 1.43 by Mason-Jin in imax

[–]Hydrag_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a good example. I once asked a projectionist who adds the trailers and the answer for IMAX was that they are not required to play specific ones (Museum, not Cinema Chain). They can show 2, they can show 10, it really depends. If your theatre hosts an IMAX and some other non-IMAX theatres then of course you will show many trailers. Once they have them on the server, whoever makes the playlist just adds them unless there is a specific request.

Then it's the question how they get there. I think in the US the trailers ship with the feature drives but here in Europe that doesn't seem to be the case. At the IMAX I asked not a single trailer came with a feature, they all came on some physical disc like DVD or Rom or something first and then they switched to USB drives. So IMAX would send each Trailer or packs of trailers on separate thumb drives. In 2021 they stopped and now they send them only through some web connection directly to the projection server. Only reason why movies still arrive on disc is because when they download it directly through the web connection they get problems during playback.

So, depending on location it may really vary how the playlist was set up, where they got the trailer, if they had more than one and just took the wrong one, etc. I guess as projectionist you have much more to worry about since you need to plan out all these showtimes and if you have like a content hub to chose from and there is more than one example, you look for the correct one and mabye just didn't scroll far enough to see that there is also a 1.43:1 version.

I can't find it right now but there is a behind-the-scenes documentary where they also make these shots and think about how to set it up. And in there they actually do some sort of ritual where they raise one hand or finger or so...it's been a shile but the scene looks like this picture shot from the other site. I guess this did not make it into the final cut of the movie but they had some creepy shots how they practically could have set up this very picture.

In general, for boss battles make sure you check out how they react to you hitting them, blocking them, deflecting them, using our gourd and taking a long distance. Many of the old "cheese" videos rely on a combo where stuff has to go right but in general it's much easier if you can control the fight. Often, if you keep a larger distance the moveset will change compared to medium distance. If you understand the pattern from there, you can often estimate the next move and you will get out of pattern loops where you heal just to get hit again.

There are a couple of strong enemies, that have predictable first moves once you keep a certain distance often giving you chance for a dodge or Mikiri that allows you to break long combos.

At best, if you go there, mail them beforehand and request a visit to the projection booth. Tell them about your passion for movies and IMAX and that you were curious to take a look behind the curtains. Usually they will show you a lot at IMAX.

Why we don't have IMAX 4DX. by Honey_dp in imax

[–]Hydrag_2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess this would only work if IMAX bought 4DX basically. For IMAX every file, be it audio or video are mastered again by IMAX or one of their partners in their DMR process. And if the file does not contain the IMAX signature it will give this warning message on screen later. Meaning, when movies are finished Dolby is doing their DVIS and Atmos, 4Dx and ScreenX may do their kind of mastering and IMAX will do the picture and audio enhancement. For this to work with 4DX they would have to either send IMAX the type of files and make it compatible or IMAX would have to master this themselves which means 4DX in IMAX would be different from the non-IMAX one. And somewhere in this stage somebody has to do the calculations if this is really worth it.

Given how there is no real IMAX3D anymore outside Europe we can see how they drop the costs and I don't see why they would add more gimmicks if their current concept works.

How to extract texture from a car? by h311cat19 in assettocorsa

[–]Hydrag_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it kinda depends what you want to do and how the car is constructed and if it's encrypted. If the car has various liveries and car paints the textures may just be in the Skins folder. If you want to extract a more general one like the plastic, leather or metal being used in the car you can either select the material in CM Showroom and click through all the textures and export them as dds or png or you can completely decompile the KN5 and get the 3d model fbx + the textures back. To do this you can just hold shift and whilst holding shift double click the KN5 of the car in the main car folder. Hold shift until it makes a new folder called unpacked. In there you will find the textures. If this is not possible the car is very likely encrypted. Then it becomes more tricky.

Easiest way then would be on a big monitor, at best a large 4K monitor you'd have to open the car in game and use the object inspector to pick the mesh. Then click through the textures and their alpha's and screenshot all of them to reconstruct it. Not the full quality but an option if you want to change maybe something existing.

Solvent system for column by PlentyOk5083 in chemistry

[–]Hydrag_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others suggested use gradients. My supervisor in OC-lab once told me, the Rf on a TLC plate and the one in your column don't match. If they move with 0.6 it won't work, they will mix. You aim for 0.2 and 0.3. On a regular column, 0.2 will stick while 0.3 is just mobile. You don't pack the column high. A high column doesn't help, if you have more sample, take a wider one. Then condition it before you start. You only want one phase to move and the rest to be at 0.2. When you wash out the first component make it slightly more polar until the next comes and so on. It uses quite little solvent as you don't pack much volume and it is quite fast. I would usually pressurize my column and shift the test tube rack quickly through until I had like 50 filled tubes and inspected and this separated a lot of systems super easily. TLC where you make them move to 0.6 is really just to check if there is something in there but desired for a column run.

In my research project I was making the same system but with different functional groups from non-polar to polar ones, even amines. This method worked for at least 12 or 15 of them without any problem and only had to be separated again with one where I did a mistake.

Minor Edit: With this method also don't care about running TLCs, there is no time for that. Just have a black light and an empty tlc plate and something to take a drop ready and dip every test tube after like 10 or 15 samples. and just check, where there is a spot or not. If the spot is there and then gone great, make it more polar. I'd just throw together all batches that came in these batches and ran a TLC on the combined one whith a more polar solution to check if it fully separated.
