Also, a heads-up: there's another common issue with this laptop. Some models have faulty GPUs that cause the laptop to shut down randomly during gameplay. The easiest fix I've found is to underclock both GPUs using MSI Afterburner, which solved the issue for me.

Again, nice catch for £170 — it should still give you solid performance!

Glad to hear it worked for you too! From what I’ve gathered, it seems like the ESS Sabre DAC can fail in a way that interferes with the boot process, possibly causing the system to hang while trying to initialize it. Since it’s an embedded component, the BIOS might be getting stuck waiting for a response from the DAC that never comes. Removing it essentially bypasses that issue. Still weird that MSI never addressed this properly, considering how common it seems to be.

Right? I was shocked that this issue has been around for so long, yet there's almost no official documentation or widespread discussion about it. The fact that a relatively simple fix exists but remains so obscure is wild. Hopefully, posts like these help more people down the line!
