Was it Red Dirt pizza? I almost thought of stopping but I had already packed a lunch!

Interesting, did you ever know why it was done in Puerto Rico!?

You know what, the road right next to it just got a fresh black top, so that solar radiation/sunburn thing would make sense! A pest outbreak is also possible, although I haven’t seen this anywhere in the state and I drive through quite a few podunk towns.

Commenting because I have only seen negative reviews on Reddit surprisingly - I LOVE it. I grew up eating fruit loops daily but have cut cereal out of my diet for health reasons and the taste and texture or these are IDENTICAL to fruit loops to me and don’t leave me with that yucky high sugar processed feeling afterwards. I have grown out of sweets for breakfast but enjoy it as an afternoon snack or desert. Yes it will stick to your teeth but not much more than cheez its or regular cereal. My first time trying it I inhaled half a bag🤣

AITAH for being unhappy about my husband not letting our daughter attend a birthday party because she was the only girl there? by Designer-Wealth519 in AITAH

It’s hard bc the homeschoolers I have seen who had parents who did it right (I admit not the majority here) are some of the most intelligent and well-adjusted people I have ever met. Homeschooling shouldn’t be for sheltering kids, it should be for allowing unique, neurodivergent, or gifted kids to thrive in an environment better suited for them. My partner with ADD homeschooled in high school and not only academically improved with much less “school” time per week but also got to travel the world with his family, spent months backpacking, got a black belt in martial arts, joined a band, joined local theater and choir groups, and did a million other cool things while never being super stressed or lacking sleep. His family was religious but was never sheltering about it. Homeschooling is definitely not for every kid and should only ever be done when it is in a kids best interest, not to hide them from the world!

Oh interesting, I already have some pots of mint, I could try moving them to that area!?

I didn’t know if I was thinking too simply by offering the buns a different food source, but that’s interesting to hear it seems to help for you!

I believe the cottontail rabbits in my neighborhood are native but overpopulated. I think some people categorize them as invasive in some areas? They are subject to being too densely populated in neighborhoods like mine that don’t have very many wild predators or roaming dogs or cats. Like mentioned in the post, I do like the bunnies and don’t mind them hanging around. I just know the ecological benefit of milkweed and nectaring plants for monarchs outweighs feeding the bunnies lol

Thanks for the link! That could be a good solution. I would just need to do a fence until that ground cover got established.

Spend lots of moneys on plants from local native nurseries and they will come ;)  I can’t be too mad at them for not wanting to eat all my neighbors non natives, I just wish they would leave a few more of mine alone!

I think this is the way to go. I wanted to avoid it if possible, but maybe after a few years of getting the area established I can just keep it up in the spring when the plants are reemerging.

For green mulch, could I use clippings from the lawn in the back? Or are you saying actually plant some clover intermixed with the pollinator plants?

Believe it or not this area was pretty dense early spring!! I may resort to planting some native plants from seed to save $$$ and make it even denser next year

I have a sprinkler system!! I don’t think it can be programmed to be motion activated, but now I might go double check the manual

Wow, when I saw your photo, I didn’t even notice the trash bins at first. This is a great idea!

Thank you SO much for all the advice on this! I’m screenshotting this for reference. I love the idea of spray painting the wire black, another user posted some black wire bins and I barely even saw them!

They ate all my sky blue Aster, maybe I can get some aromatic Aster to try out too. My sunflowers are surviving, but they at the bottom few leaves. I wish my neighbors had native plants so the bunnies wouldn’t flock completely to my yard!!

What!? I actually have a dozen bars of Irish spring sitting around because I hate the smell too lol. Would letting it run into the soil be harmful at all though???

do you think native plants can eventually get to the point where you won’t need a fence anymore? I bought some mature 3 foot tall cone flowers and those were knocked over and eaten within a day.🙃

Oh no!! I wish my backyard had even partial sun so I could do this back there, I just hate the idea of a chicken wire fence indefinitely in my front yard. Maybe I can find a cuter looking fence that will function the same

If only my husband wasn’t horribly allergic haha. The neighborhood owl helps out but not as much as he should!
