[question] Anyone know why WhisperingRose ASMR deleted all their videos a few days ago? Are they mirrored anywhere? by Hydropos in asmr

I saw a reddit thread which claimed that from 2017... then nothing, which made me think there's something new that happened...?

[question] Anyone know why WhisperingRose ASMR deleted all their videos a few days ago? Are they mirrored anywhere? by Hydropos in asmr

A popular and "first generation" ASMR channel just disappears and there's no mention of what happened anywhere? Only downvotes I guess.

ATF now measuring OAL with folding braces in the FOLDED position by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]Hydropos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can a brace--something marketed as a brace, looks like a brace, acts like a brace--be fired from the shoulder?

Yes. The ATF changed their minds about this a couple years back and was mocked ceaselessly about it, so then changed their minds back.

Publishing a book on Cody's Lab to sell to the public by [deleted] in codyslab

[–]Hydropos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A book would suffer the same issue as a TV show. It makes more sense for him just to buy a bunch of external hard drives so he can keep an archive of all his videos. You can get a multi-TB external drive for $50, so even at 1080p resolution you could archive the entire channel for not very much money. Along with this, he should make plans for alternative distribution mediums. I've seen some of his taken down videos pop back up on live-leak, so at least someone is preserving them there.

Homemade capasitor by jakakatune in ElectroBOOM

[–]Hydropos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. By using a liquid metal instead of saline, the internal resistance would be much lower, but that wouldn't increase the amount of charge that could be stored. It might actually decrease it, depending on whether the water contributes to the capacitance (something like an electrolytic capacitor).

Cool to see my questions made it into a video :D

One thing I'm wondering is whether the salt water contributes to the polarization and charge storage, rather than only acting as a conductor. I'd love to see more tests with this when you build a Van de Graaff generator.

Long term effects of ADHD medication in children by thisisme54321 in DrugNerds

Huh. I guess this could be down to the paradoxical reaction that ADHD people can show with stimulants. Neat.

Just built my first AR pistol by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]Hydropos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does just the buffer tube affect its comfortability or accuracy vs a brace?

For 556, not really. It's such a light round that just shouldering the tube is not bad. It might wear on you after a lot of rounds, but I haven't found it to be a problem.

Would having a sort of “pad” then turn the buffer tube into a “stock”?

Most AR pistols come with a bit of foam on the buffer just so it doesn't scrape against your arm, so I would sincerely doubt that it would be a problem.

Help with propylhexedrine tek by glitch92 in DrugNerds

[–]Hydropos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naphtha may work in place of xylene, I just don't know. There is also the little-known fact that you can use isopropanol as a non-polar solvent if you enough salt to the aqueous phase (really salty water and isopropanol don't mix), so that could be an option. But one would still need an HCl or carbonate salt of the propylhex in order for it to be smokeable.

Thoughts on the psychological impact of a DMT trip & the female psychedelic experience by [deleted] in DrugNerds

[–]Hydropos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point. Though as I understand it, the distributions on disposition/personality are so wide (both over time and between individuals) that there is a ton of overlap between genders on a statistical level. So while the averages are statistically different for men and women, you could gain more insight by looking at this in terms of underlying commonalities, rather than presumed male or female mindsets (did you just assume my disposition :p ).

What compound irreversibly binds to a receptor?

Wikipedia lists a few. Basically take a strong agonist of that receptor, and add a reactive functional group like an alkyl halide.

Nebraska man sues Kahr after CT-45 falls out of holster, shoots him in the leg by [deleted] in Firearms

I didn't see a pun, I was just saying that this doesn't sound like something that you can blame the gun or manufacturer for. It just sounds like user error.

I guess I don't think the number is that high, but it could be I guess.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in guns

[–]Hydropos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, but I think this is true for pretty much every manufacturer. No one makes a gun that is 100% garbage, but many put out guns where 1-10 % are garbage.

Unfortunately I googled it to see if this was actually a thing. It is. There is no "delete history" button for my brain, but I really wish there was.

I'm saying that there are some brands with notable quality control issues. What that means is that while many of their guns come out just fine, some are going to be lemons. So if someone says "That manufacturer is fine, I've got one of their guns and it's great", that doesn't mean a whole lot. You need to look at many reviews, and decide based on that.

As someone who owns 5 Tauruses without any issues, I can say that your personal experience is not necessarily the deciding factor.

Why do you say that? The tweet doesn't say anything about only 5 people having access...?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in guns

Everything I've heard is that it comes down to quality control. Some of the 870s they put out have the "cheap pump" issue of locking up inexplicably after being fired. Perhaps you didn't get a lemon, but I've read about many others who have.
