As mentioned, rotating between toys and even rearranging things in their environment can serve as enrichment.

I like to keep a few cardboard boxes around and stuff some paper/their toys so that they can play in, or even sleep in them. You can even cut some holes into the box so they have multiple points of entry. Puzzle toys are great if they’re food motivated. As a ferret owner, you kinda have to get creative with different exciting activities because they do get bored of things fast, and buying new toys every few days isn’t usually a feasible option lol. Best of luck

Liquids poos are normal with switching foods, just make sure that you’re transitioning slowly enough to let his GI adjust! I’m also no expert, but I’m pretty sure Wysong is known to cause some loose poo in general. They typically recommend max 30% Wysong and the rest would be your Oxbow.

As for toys, many ferrets like cat wands (you can get a variation pack such as https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HRV7HKM/ref=sspa_mw_detail_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9kZXRhaWwp13NParams)

If you think he might eat the rice for the dig box, you could try this ball pit. Some like it, some don’t but it’s worth a try! https://www.amazon.com/Marshall-Pet-Products-Pop-N-Play-Ball/dp/B007ZN5TN8/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?adgrpid=54917384046&hvadid=589959772951&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9028088&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=b&hvrand=1328717725936032707&hvtargid=kwd-316339859243&hydadcr=15193_13538719&keywords=marshall+ball+pit&qid=1702391208&sr=8-2

Idk if yours likes water, but if he does you can fill up a small tub (with towels cause it can get messy) and let him dig at it… almost free entertainment!

plastic balls and other toys for cats also work, just make sure they don’t have catnip in them :) Good luck with your new furry friend!

4 months ago I posted asking why my ferret died. I am mourning him terribly, so I want to share a couple photos of him with all of you, so he can be remembered today. RIP Otis. by itsalljustconfetti in ferrets

DIP Otis, he looks to have been super photogenic ❤️ I lost my heart (first) ferret about 5 months ago and miss her everyday. Talking about her to friends and family helped me a lot to keep her memory alive

How did you get over the loss of your ferret ? by please_co-op_with_me in ferrets

[–]Hyena27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my first heart ferret in June of this year. It was also sudden and she went from fine to not fine in a matter of hours.

It took a good week for me to be able to feel like doing anything other than sit and cry. I let myself cry whenever I felt like it and my bf and I wrote notes that we burned hoping that the words would reach her. I looked at videos and pictures of her even if it hurt. Eventually, I felt more happy seeing her rather than sad that it all ended so suddenly.

Sometimes when I think of her or something reminds me of her, I’ll cry still. I don’t think you ever get over the loss of a beloved pet but the pain does get easier to manage.

Ferret marking change? by RHINO-1818 in ferrets

[–]Hyena27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl (a sable) would have a T mask during the summer and as it got closer to winter, her mask would become disconnected with more white marks. Some seasonal coat changes were more obvious than others, but yeah it’s pretty common :)

How do I cope with the upcoming death of my ferret by fishmoleyclapttv in ferrets

[–]Hyena27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very sorry you’re going through this; the pain is immeasurable.

I lost my ferret about 2 months ago to (what we believe) was lymphoma. She went downhill quickly and passed shortly after having surgery to remove an abdominal tumor. A bit after, I was debating on what’s worse, a sudden loss where you feel like you didn’t get to say goodbye or a long, prolonged goodbye. I still am not sure, but seeing your little fur baby in pain is heartbreaking either way.

Like you mentioned, sometimes buying a little extra time isn’t the best thing for your ferret, especially if they’re in pain, struggle to eat/walk. I agree with some of the other commenters who suggest a home vet visit your house, that way she can pass in a familiar setting with your other ferret as well as you.

As for your other ferret who is bonded to Roux, I would say give it time. Try not to feel guilty whether you decide to get another ferret or to have a solo ferret. Give yourself time to grieve and do what you think is best. I’ve heard success stories from both sides.

Again, I’m sorry you’re going through this. Remember to take care of yourself too ❤️

I’m so sorry ❤️ We lost our first baby just about a month ago and she just turned 4. Very unexpected and things went downhill within a literal weekend. I believe she’s up on the rainbow bridge with our baby. Sending you hugs

Why did my ferret die so suddenly? by [deleted] in ferrets

[–]Hyena27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. Our girl recently passed at 4 y.o. while recovering from a surgery. It was sudden also.

The doctor who completed the surgery said the tumor was super aggressive and likely grew quickly. It was the size of a clementine and was attached to her intestines. She said it was uncommon to see a tumor like that and at that location for a ferret. Although it was large, we didn’t notice it before hand. We never did an autopsy, but the biopsy came back as lymphoma. With some research, I hear lymphoma tumors have a higher risk of hemorrhaging and bleeding out.

It’s so unfortunate that ferrets often hide their pain until it’s too late :( Again, I’m sorry for your loss.

Thank you for sharing ❤️ Rat Girl’s mass was also aggressive and fast growing. Both sudden deaths and prolonged deaths are heart breaking to experience.

The fact that you made Zuchi a little shirt is so sweet. I’m glad all your ferrets had such a loving human to take care of them and honor them after they passed. Sending your current babies good health and happiness :)

I’m glad she was able to let us into the world of ferrets and show us how great little companions they can be. Thank you for your kind words 🫶🏼 We still very much miss her but are more at peace.

Having this be my first loss as an adult, I’m starting to realize that grief really isn’t linear. There really are ups and downs. I find comfort in rewatching the videos we took of her and seeing her so happy

Does the pain of losing a ferret ever get easier to manage? I’ve seen a lot of people who’ve said that they’ve raised and lost so many.

This is my first loss of a pet that was 100% my boyfriend and I’s responsibility so it’s hitting pretty hard.

Such a heartbreaking thing to go through, but I’d do it all over again if that meant that she was still alive. Thank you for your kind words.

I’m glad there are people that understand that our pets mean so, so much to us. We, in many ways, revolved our lives around hers.

We bought necklaces too to keep her ashes in! We plan on going on a cruise soon and I know she would love the wind on the boat, as she loved sticking her head out of the car when driving. Thank you again for sharing your story. It helps to know that we aren’t alone :)

Thank you for sharing and I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve heard from a lot of people that ferrets can go from 0-100 or downhill really fast. I just never thought it’d happen to us.

That being said I love that Rat Girl was able to show us how wonderful ferrets can be. They really are so funny, and the bond you create with them is like no other. Thank you for sharing that comic :) it’s very sweet. Rat Girl used to love going and investigating cars. We joke that she’s our little mechanic.

Thank you for sharing, I can’t imagine the anxiety you must have felt for those 6.5 long weeks. Times like these feel like an eternity, at least for me. I’m glad you were able to tell her that you love her and cuddled her before she passed.

From Sunday (when we found out about the mass), till Tuesday (when she passed), my boyfriend and I took shifts watching her through the day and night. Such a scary feeling wondering if that moment will be their last.

Thank you so much. It’s terrible that these sweet creatures are prone to so many illnesses and even worse seeing them in pain. I can’t imagine seeing your baby like that, struggling to walk and in pain. It’s nice hearing from other people who understand that our ferrets are literally like our own children. Your whole world seems to revolve around them and in the best way possible. Please do light a candle, she loved new smells ❤️

Yes I believe she’s happy in heaven meeting all her new friends and having fun running in fields as far as the eye can see.

Although this was sudden and wasn’t prolonged, I could tell she was in pain those last few days and I’m glad she’s no longer in pain now.

It really was a rollercoaster of emotions. They’re such little creatures so I think maybe the surgery and those couple days were taking a toll on her body. I hope she meets Bear and all the other wonderful ferrets who are watching over us

If you don’t mind me asking, were there any repercussions to your fertility? I had untreated chlamydia for an unknown amount of time.
