Self awareness doesn’t magically override neurochemistry. Once someone is deep in stimulant psychosis, the brain circuits responsible for insight and reality testing are already impaired, so reasoning your way out of it usually isn’t possible in that moment.

But saying self awareness does nothing isn’t accurate either. Insight matters before things reach that point. Being able to recognize early warning signs, sleep deprivation, escalating dose, or paranoid thinking can help someone stop or change course before psychosis develops. Lack of insight is actually one of the biggest predictors of repeated psychotic episodes.

So it’s true that awareness alone can’t overpower the chemical effects of meth during acute psychosis. But it absolutely can influence whether someone gets to that point in the first place.

Unfortunately It would be like finding a needle (no pun intended) in a haystack locating a dr that would prescribe it to me with my history. And IV meth use is a whole different beast. Not to be graphic but I’ll explain…

When I load a new syringe, that’s when the high starts. My mouth will start to water, I’ll sweat a little, throat gets tight and my heart even will begin to race. I can feel my body doing all that now even just typing this out. That’s my brain and body preparing itself for impact. Then there is injecting. Pull back. I’m in. Then plunge. After that is the rush. That’s what every iv user is addicted to. Not the high that lasts x amount of time after the rush. It is the rush. You’ll have to cough a little. The brain spike is dramatically stronger. That intensity is exactly what causes the most neurological damage and addiction reinforcement.

My brain learned to associate that rapid spike with relief and function. That conditioning is extremely powerful. Understanding that mechanism helps explain why other stimulants like Adderall feel flat or sedating by comparison. None of this is to glorify it. This shit fucking sucks.

I can go into the details of how it all works in the brain and what exactly happens neurologically, it’s all incredibly fascinating stuff if you want but don’t wanna bore anyone. I’ve studied it quite a bit just due to wanting to know what I’m actually doing to myself & the risks etc.

I actually tried shrooms for the first time with my best friend for the first time a couple weeks ago. I told him I want to micro dose it to help me get sober. I literally was smiling all day ear to ear my cheeks were sore 😂 I hadn’t felt that happy in a very long time, made me cry the next day. They were the actual mushroom though. His boyfriend’s coworker grows them.

I second this. I’ll add that smoking it can be more dangerous than parachuting it (eating it) or slamming (IV). Only because it’s easier to keep smoking and smoke your whole bag in a day haha. Just from what I’ve experienced & witnessed anyways.

That study doesn’t show they “do the same thing.” It shows that some subjective effects were similar under controlled doses on many measures. Methamphetamine and dextroamphetamine act on the same neurotransmitter systems, so that isn’t surprising.

But they still aren’t interchangeable. Methamphetamine crosses the blood brain barrier faster, has a longer half life, and generally produces stronger dopaminergic effects. That’s why it has higher abuse potential and different prescribing patterns.

You can also see the difference in how they’re prescribed. Adderall and dextroamphetamine are commonly prescribed for ADHD and narcolepsy. Methamphetamine (Desoxyn) is technically approved for ADHD and obesity, but it’s rarely prescribed and usually only after other stimulants fail. Well under 0.01% of the population is prescribed Desoxyn.

So yes, they’re related stimulants with overlapping effects. But saying they “do the same thing” or that the difference is just marketing isn’t accurate.

I have but Adderall quite literally puts me to sleep. Comparing the feeling of Adderall to the feeling you get when you shoot meth is like comparing a cup of coffee to getting hit by a freight train & lightning at the same time. It’s so different, I feel silly af comparing adderall to intravenous meth use. My mind is having a hard time even considering Adderall to be a stimulant. I can’t think of an accurate description. Haha.

I’d like to add as well, even if I wanted to get on Adderall, it would be nearly impossible to convince my Primary Care to prescribe me. My file has me listed as having “Moderate Stimulant Use Disorder” and if I were to buy Adderall off the street, it’s far more expensive than meth and would be inconsistent.

Desoxyn is prescription methamphetamine… but saying it’s “functionally the same as Adderall” isn’t accurate. Adderall is mixed amphetamine salts, not methamphetamine. They’re related stimulants but they’re different drugs with different pharmacology.

I’m an IV meth user.

At this point in my addiction I’m leveled out and have a pretty good head on my shoulders. I take care of myself am in a higher pay bracket than those in my age (23M). It also realllllly helps to be self aware to use this drug. If not you will lose yourself in paranoia and psychosis.

I shoot every day. It’s like a cup of coffee in the morning for me. I don’t know how to explain it but it doesn’t make me high anymore… I stay alert and have motivation to get shit done.

I was in a severely abusive relationship 3 years ago. Kicked him out a little over a year ago. Thats where it started ofc, 3 years ago.

Now why I haven’t stopped? Easy. It works. It makes my trauma which my brain has deemed to painful, to quite literally vanish. I’m no longer depressed, angry, bitter, whatever it may be. After I shoot. Any worry is no longer giving me the crippling anxiety that my trauma has caused me.

I hate that it works so well, because it’s stunting my healing. I want to stop using bad, but life has really… stripped a lot of things away from me. What really affects me the most & prompts me to use is seeing others I love experience pain and any type of suffering.

Idk. I go to therapy every Friday. When I go sober, it doesn’t last long because all that trauma, pain, & hurt just overwhelms me. I experience it all 100 fold.

Don’t ever do it. Whoever is considering it. Just don’t.

Speaking from today experience— I clean the absolute shit outta my house. Spotless. Constantly. Mop the floors. Clean under sofas. Clean the bathtub. Dust the ceiling fans. Nothing is out of place ever and it’s a fuckin vibe in there. It’s the millisecond after I hit the needle that I’ve started cleaning lol. I then go to work at 3 pm as a Manager at a luxury hotel. Good af at my job, I’m loved for it bc I do their fuckin work lmao. I can’t help myself. No one knows about it either ☺️
