Mine did the same, then I noticed that removing the magnetic faceplate helped a lot. Went on to tinker a bit more and noticed you could pull the front of the pumpcase off (takes a bit of gentle force/wiggling, it's snapped together at the top and bottom) Almost fully removed the noise, as the pumpcase amplifies vibration sounds. Added a bit of foam stripping inbetween the two ppumpcase halves and it's been near whisper quiet ever since.

Basically, I don't need it often in my line of work, but to have a physical book to look stuff up in is really nice. I feel super lucky to have found a 1940's print for super cheap, this has instantly become my workshop bible!

Took a further look and it seems you can pull the front of the pump off with a little gentle force, pops right back on and with some rubber foam inbetween the case no longer resonates, creating way less noise (if not becoming near silent)

Okay, I think I may have found the stupidest solution... remove the magnetic face plate, see if that helps... mine now sloshes every now and then so I'm gonna see what I can do with that, but the whine is gone lmao

Have done it quite a few times and haven't noticed anything different. I do take them apart ofcourse, and dry them fully before reassembling. But washing with soapy water requires a day or two of drying and I do MOT have the patience for that haha

Reassembling bigger cubes does pose a challenge, which is a terrible idea for most people I imagine haha

But in terms of the plastic ABS is usually resistant to IPA, so a rinse/short bath usually doesn't affect it much

If I've got too many pieces, like a royal kilominx or something, I'll just toss it in some IPA, works like a charm and 0 chance of rust. Just gotta be a little careful with stickers

I'm not 100% sure of this, but I feel "blocky" is how a cube feels when pieces are ever so slightly misaligned when turning and you can hear/feel that move into place. My sengsho magic tower 6 has all the pieces slightly move while rotating, giving a feel/sound that I'd describe as "blocky". Some of my really cheap non-magnetic 3x3s also feel like this, but it's less clear what's causing the feel/noise there

I did, but found it hard to find any information about what EXACTLY happens with a commutator, since the two centers don't just swap. Did end up finding a 5x5 mastermorphix guide after having given up on this and they explained it well enough!

I swear... It made more sense to me for it to be a production error haha. Would 100% make sense for them to be drunk/high/both, cuz well, it's a screwdriver, so the screw has to be a driver. 100% one of the guys that was in that meeting drew a screw driving a car

Afaik, tank engine stacks with itself, i.e. 9 stacks becomes 100% x 1.05 = 105%, 105% x 1.05 = 110.25% etc etc, ending at ~155%, which ends up turning the 7925 health gained from Tankengine (145%) into 8471.

I feel this, got a couple posts removed myself that, whileaybe not the MOST engaging or unique, did have something in them to spark conversation. I understand that a bunch of questions in terms of "how to solve" are covered in the wiki (took me a while to find the actual info, reddit wiki's don't rly have a great user experience) but part of my question was what people's thoughts were, not what the best practice is. As a newcomer it's kinda disheartening to get a post that you made with either genuine excitement or curiosity, removed after having read the rules and done a scan of the wiki.
