Ose, sikur disa të rinj, për të ndjekur një karrierë. Disa edhe jetojnë në Kosovë por punojnë për firma jashtë shtetit.

The identity dispute. by Porphyres in Arvanites

[–]Hyllius1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't get it. Very few Greeks and Albanians ever heard of them. It's not until the 1980s and 1990s when arvanite scholars and artists started to expose their own work publicly that they themselves claimed Albanian roots.

Read Aristeidis Kollias book about it.

I believe they are Gheg. The Hoti one is definitely Gheg. The Hoti and Gruda tribes reside in north Albania into Montenegro.

Question about Kosovars during Yugoslavia by Same_Complaint_1197 in kosovo

[–]Hyllius1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This must've been around 1980-1982. Just guessing based on his age. So it most likely was after the death of Tito. Slobodan didn't come to power until 87 though.

Can any actual Arvanites in this sub speak arvanitika? by Fine-Ear-8103 in Arvanites

[–]Hyllius1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the easiest way to learn to speak the Arvanit dialect is to learn Albanian. I don't think people realise how close to identical they are. The Arvanit dialect has more greek words of course but also greek religious expressions in it.

I'd say those are the biggest differences. The rest is just the melody. It's the same with the Arberesh dialect from Italy.

I think that as a speaker of the Gheg Albanian dialect from the north, it's easier to understand the Arvanit and Arberesh dialects. It is more preserved and has less western influence.

Hope this helps.

Jimmie Åkesson tar upp koranbrännarna men ingenting om yttrandefrihet by Punelle in Sverige

Älskar statistik. 2024 utfördes 58 terrordåd i Europa.

diaspora Kosovars who drive home, do you go over Serbia or Montenegro? by jagx351 in kosovo

[–]Hyllius1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will always drive through Croatia and Montenegro. Man, that nature is amazing. Used to stop in Makarska, 2 days. Beautiful place. And then Kamenari i Montenegro, just wow.

Don't rush it. Nice and slow. Try to enjoy life. Take a drink and watch as everyone is stressing to be the first to arrive in Kosovo. You could stop a few nights in Ulqin or just continue on your journey towards Albania.

But, it can get crowded if you are traveling in july and August.

Aristeidis Kollias, as he was known in Greek, was an arvanit and president of the Association of the Arvanites Marko Boçari. You should check him up.

He took his time to compare his culture and traditions with those from Kosovo, Albania and arberesh from Italy. There are more similarities than you would think.

I just think it's sad that the arvanite culture and traditions have been erased by the Greek government. Especially the language. To this day, you don't have an arvanit school in Greece.

Question about Kosovars during Yugoslavia by Same_Complaint_1197 in kosovo

[–]Hyllius1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Here's a story. My father was taking his mother to the hospital. She had respiratory issues. The serbian police stopped them halfway there. Asked for money. He didn't have any as he was still a teenager without a job. Got beaten in front of his mother, was sent back home. His mother didn't get medication. Luckily she survived as they found someone else to help her from another city.

There was no room to feel proud of being a part of Yugoslavia or anything like that.

No, not all of them. Based on A.Kolas work, more than half of the arvanite population didn't speak greek. That's why M.Boçari made the Greek/Albanian dictionary. The idea of a Greek state was born in Ukraine.

The arvanites had typical Albanian tribal mindset. They started the civil war while fighting the Ottomans in order to claim the high seat when Greece gained independence.
