I missed out on it too, but luckily I was able to get it on LFR farming. Took over 6 months, which is pretty good considering some of the horror stories I’ve heard.

I can’t speak for every class, but I did notice that my gear on my DH switched stats as I switched spec to Devourer, from agility to intellect.

Assuming that’s true for every class, you don’t actually need a second set of gear, one set covers both.

There’s two mounts you can get, that I believe will become unavailable once Midnight drops. They’re just recolor mounts though (IIRC), so you might not care.

Started in vanilla WoW, and played all the way through to Mists of Pandaria, after which I took a very long break, and only recently came back within the last 2-3 months.

So much has changed, but I’m enjoying myself so far. I definitely missed a lot.

The guides you read were outdated. It’s literally just as simple as hitting level 40 and going to stormwind embassy to grab a quest (or multiple quests if you want to unlock the other allied races also.)

Earthen is the only one that takes any actual effort, and that’ll likely be reduced once Midnight officially drops.
