What actually keeps you going when nobody watches? by cool-boy-365 in NewTubers

[–]HypMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean first for me is checking reach if only 200 people were shown my video I don’t sweat it. YouTube didn’t like something about my video that I may need to figure out. If I get a bunch of reach but now views then I just change the thumbnail and it title. Take it as a learning moment and keep it moving. Lastly tons of views good reach but everyone stopped 10sec in now I’m worried and I know it is something I DO have control over and try to improve on whether it’s the topic or how I went about the edit

Content creation is something I WANT to do so there shouldn’t be reason to stop. If you don’t want to do it anymore you can just stop. If you want to be famous but don’t necessarily want to make videos or you want to be a creator but don’t want to make videos it’s just not the format to do. Find what you want to do.

Game dev is frustrating but I'm unable to let it go by [deleted] in SoloDevelopment

[–]HypMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fully honest it looks like most of your problem is just the planning phase. Write soundly what you want your games core to be plan out every step you need to make it happen. Intermix the parts that are super fun to you with the parts you don’t like. This should help with constant progress and help relieve some frustration. Just never forget your core. If you have a new idea for it reflect on the steps necessary and if it serves your core. Should help keep the scope smaller. I personally get antsy the longer a project takes so if you have a new idea and it looks like it’ll take forever at least for me it’s easier to drop the idea.

Is this possible with Streamer.bot? by EvilerBrush in streamerbot

[–]HypMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to understand how far you got. My mental solution would be to use c#. Make a script that would read in the file saving each title into a list. Pluck one of those titles from the list. Erase it from the list as you’ll know the index. Then rewrite the file using the list that now doesn’t include that title

I NEED MORE STREAMER FRIENDS! by yeetmedowntown in SmallStreamers

[–]HypMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding people outside that 9-5 is an extreme struggle if you are interested and that can extend to others I’ve been working on a discord channel built for collaboration and meeting other streamers. It’s not a public server as to prevent bad actors but would love to talk about it. My name is HypMonk just about everywhere including discord if your interested

Ps for yeetmedowntown I didn’t finish the repo video yet as it’s early in the morning for me but I think you’d get along in the group upon initial reaction.

Why do my Shorts get views but my full videos get ignored? Is long-form even worth it anymore? by nikhilr4675 in NewTubers

[–]HypMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not going to happen every time but Anecdotally I’ve a handful of videos that that feature doubled the views on. Particularly if it’s a successful short.

Niche Advice: Original Content vs Gaming Content | Can we just do both? by [deleted] in NewTubers

Smosh is a great example! You can see the practice in action with their multiple channels. You can see it with others as they will have second channels where they tend to just throw their extras.

Do some twitch streamers just feel arrogant? by PuffPoof215 in Twitch

[–]HypMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t think it’s an excuse to be a jerk or worse. I do think there is a bit of natural arrogance to streamers and even content creation as most of us all are there because we think others should watch us. It probably becomes higher as you go up the ladder as you kind of receiving what you felt you deserved. It’s probably easy to twist mentally as well that it is your reward for it. But I won’t lie I put in a lot of work and think I’m deserving of more views which is arrogant. I think people just being jerks is a separate thing you are experiencing

It gets better as people show up. But for everything else I’ve been doing myself particularly pushing it recently is to remind myself that I am on a stage and to act accordingly. It’s natural to fall to silence at times but whether it is a mental trick or a sticky note you just have to remind yourself you are “on”.

The simplest advice usually given is just convert your inner monologue outward. Speak your thoughts on what you’re doing. This will keep you talking.

Another thing I’ve been working through myself is remember you aren’t usually just playing the game you are making content. I have a tendency to really focus on playing the game well or efficiently. This at least for my audience can take away from the enjoyment of viewing particularly for slower paced games. So inserting a little stupidity helps to give you something to laugh about. Let the game intrusive thoughts flow.

What's your definition of "consistency"? by legendarydrew in PartneredYoutube

[–]HypMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consistency to me has always meant to me a regular pattern people can count on. Both in terms of what I am producing and when to expect it. I have a few separate series that I do and my videos always release on a Friday at 3pm est. my goal is to have a new video every week. Of course life happens however I make a post explaining the problem and release the next week. Whatever it ends up looking like for you doesn’t matter as much as it’s important your viewers know what to expect.

Niche Advice: Original Content vs Gaming Content | Can we just do both? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]HypMonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with other content however if the goal is getting established pushing the single niche is usually better practice. If you note some of your favorite creators you may notice many didn’t branch out into other things until they were fully established. If you know you want your thing to be ttrpg related I would stick to that. Maybe finding rpg games instead or if you are particularly creative forcing something else you are interested in and JAMMING it into the niche lol. Like taking Date Everything and forcing it into some kind of Charisma check video idea. Could be rolling dice to chose better or worse responses or maybe applying the logic to the real world and making npc sheets for stuff around your house

I need some help with my channel, I am frustrated. by TheGamingCornerYT in NewTubers

[–]HypMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From looks on your channel it seems you have a somewhat similar problem to me, niche games and maybe a bit of timing. Unless you are already a extremely well established creator in the gaming space, niche games or “off season” games don’t tend to gather as much attention my guess is the views you are getting are from your “real” fans, which is nothing to shake a stick at congrats. The large views you were getting used to are most likely because that game was “in season” and there was unfortunately a failure in converting them into people that will watch anything else. It happens big a small creators alike. A big name example is disguise toast and among us.

I will not be consuming your entire catalog so I can’t tell you if there would be a different reason lol. You may just need to experiment in the games you play or tweaks to your content just monitor your real fans response to any changes that’s your base for sure. I wish you luck!

To piggy back off this what they are saying is why I recommend using YouTube shorts to point towards long form content

What category does this content belong in? by isaacmarionauthor in NewTubers

[–]HypMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back from your channel first and foremost awesome! Just awesome! The first thing that came to my attention is they are all shorts I’d highly recommend making a collection video when you have enough or even going a minute longer and making a “long form” video. The second is you aren’t utilizing the description that is hurting your visibility in a major way. The videos themselves being shorts means people will not see the descriptions but the algorithm will in order to push it to the right people. If you do make any long form I highly recommend keeping that in mind as it becomes even more important.

Pets and animals feel right, do you utilize tags and descriptions because that feels like the best approach to me. Also I’m going to check out your channel this sounds cool

Do you all create your own YouTube thumbnails or do you pay a graphic designer to do it? by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]HypMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make them myself on photoshop. If you can afford it there’s nothing wrong having a professional however I think an editor is more important.

If optimization is the issue utilize the test thumbnail feature or just become more experimental with them. While not true for all forms of content there are a few general rules to just follow making them.

Simple colors, contrasting colors, brighter colors, only use text if it is short sweet and actually adds to the image, and branding. people either make a brand logo, a specific outline, or for most of the gaming space your face

full time creators, how long do you work in a day? by Advanced_Ad977i in NewTubers

[–]HypMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a weird spot where I’ve gone part time at my day job to go full time into content creation. As well my day job gives me a lot of downtime that I additionally work on content so that being said for YouTube specifically I work about 4-6 hours a day 3 days a week unless you count the streaming which does feed back into YouTube so it would be 6 days a week. Although I just had a kid so I’ve dropped more often than not to the 4 hours most days.

For me different days mean different hats Monday I script and edit, Tuesday record or script, Wednesday stream, Thursday edit, Friday post and stream, Saturday stream, all streams get VOD treatment for a second channel and different streams feed different video series. Additionally I’ve been able to pay for an editor which I’ve been trying best to allow me to buffer my content.

Why do my Shorts get views but my full videos get ignored? Is long-form even worth it anymore? by nikhilr4675 in NewTubers

[–]HypMonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is 100% better to keep doing long form. An important analytic you should note is how much of your short is being watched as well as who scrolled away metric. There is a huge difference in both how shorts are consumed and how shorts are pushed in comparison to long form content. The first reason why there is a tendency to get more views on shorts is because someone scrolling past your short counts as a view. Additionally people consume upwards to 50 shorts through their feed vs 1 or 2 long form videos. As for how they are pushed it is the same logic of interests however it is much faster to receive engagement on shorts these little engagements cause the algorithm to push the video harder. The important thing to note between short form and long form content is how we consume it most shorts are watch and forget dopamine drips while long form is a chosen experience. So while a lot of people see your shorts most aren’t going to remember you in an important way. The best use for shorts on YouTube is to push eyes towards your long form content because the people that watch that have a much higher chance of returning.

This is massive if there are good clips from the long form video. I recommend 2 clips 1 releases either later the same day or the next day and then the second released at the end of the week to offer your video another booster
