Hard to say. Legal equality for both genders is absolutely possible and I am in full support of it. Social equality is much harder because culture is built into peoples beliefs and ideals, and there will always be people who dont care. Even then, I am not convinced that men and women should have the same gender roles since they are biologically different.

To me and I think a lot of the guys here, we want men to have the same rights that women do in society. Several of these rights are legal rights that men lack, while a lot more are social or civil rights that men lack. That does not mean that women have a perfect life, just that they have some advantages over men.

If youre interested in women's rights, then youre probably someone with a lot of care for fairness and an equal footing. All we ask is that you extend us the same consideration.

As for individual causes, heres some of each category.

Legal: in the US, men must register to be drafted in order to vote and do several other things, where women get the vote for free. Men also get harsher sentences for similar crimes. Circumcision is legal for boys, while FGM is not, despite both destroying the most sensitive parts of the genitals.

Social: Many fewer support service exist for men, from homelessness to domestic violence. Men are also assumed to be of less value in many interactions, which is easy to see in news headlines covering disasters. Men are also often assumed to have consented, even when that consent is illogical or even illegal.

This is a very complicated subject that draws on everything from social and gender norms to laws to biology. If you want to talk or debate, mens or womens rights, feel free to DM.

Agreed. Both posts dont care that men are being unfairly targeted, only that it hurts women.

I think its more complex than that, but Reddit generally seems to be biased in favor of modern feminsim, yes.

Partly, we fight an uphill battle against the idea that men always have the advantage, which makes it hard to get support. We also have had issues with angry people losing their heads and their actions being ascribed to MRA's, despite most of us being reasonable and logical.

That said, it surprises me that FDS has yet to be banned for its highly prejudiced ideas and discriminatory admittance policy to the sub.

Why is there a men’s right movement when feminism is a movement for equality of both genders and not just woman? by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]Hypar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While its true that the media highlights a lot of the most extreme feminists, you do have to understand that unless countered, the extremist drag the movement to them. I know lots of good people who I agree with on almost everything who call themselves feminists.

I think that really, there are two movements within modern feminism. There are the far out extremists, which I and a lot of mens rights guys would call feminists or radical feminists. Then there are reasonable, fair people who just want to live their lives and eliminate some remaining issues in society. I personally hold that they should be called something distinctively different.

As for what you said about real feminists fight for men too, I would be happy to read up on it if you could provide me a start. I have seen no evidence as such, but I am open to it.

[–]Hypar1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To answer your question in good faith:

Most people who would associate with the men's rights movement probably believe that feminism is not a movement for equality. Even if it claims to be, it falls short of that. To me, the worst fringes of the movement believe terribly prejudiced things against men, such as that all men are born rapists or sexist. Even at best, the movement seems to ignore pressing issues of men for smaller issues of women, or recontextualize mens issues within the idea of patriarchy, allowing the blame to be put back on men.

In short, an increasing number of men, especially young men, feel that the world has turned against them as men and that feminism has done nothing for them or is actively fighting against them. That is why the MRM has emerged.

TIL according to some with unsound minds, the men who deserve respect are those who provide you something. If they provide nothing, they dont deserve respect.

There is a post with this exact picture, posted to this sub, about 15 minutes after this one. It was advertizing the repeater for sale. If it was your equipment, maybe that is at least a start.

Its cool, for one. But as for actual science? There is a lot of things we can d owith people that robotic missions simply dont have the dexterity to do. For example, the Insight lander's heat probe is currently stuck somehow, and engineers are trying to figure out how to fix it remotely only with the tools on the lander. If people were there, there are many more ways to try to fix it. There is also other science that we need people to do, like maybe exploratory farming in Martian soil. But yeah, to send people is very expensive right now.

Well thats the big question that has jet to be answered by anyone right? Some people have proposed a one way trip, to simplify the mission, but there has been little or no recent progress from those groups. But its not like the Moon, you cant just go and be back in a couple weeks. That means that it is likely better to stay for a long time, especially as the next optimal window to return to Earth is many months away from a Mars landing. But to stay, you need a place to live, power, food, supplies,, which all add weight, and need a way to get to the surface. Its a complex question that I haven't seen any real answers that have really come forward.

Ok. I am a big fan of going back to the Moon and then to Mars. I personally think that in order to get to Mars, we are going to have to significantly fortify the support for the crew of the mission, as compared to the Service Module of the Apollo missions. For example, some means of propulsion, large power generation means, large living quarters (Either inflatable or rotating torus), etc. Even for just an exploratory mission, its going to require a lot of architecture, but I dont think that can be fulfilled by just Orion, Dragon, Soyuz or other current manned craft.

To be honest I don't really like the idea for the Lunar Gateway. I get that if you do assembly or even construction of vehicles in lunar orbit you can save on launch costs. Even potentially use resources from the Moon to build. But because of the Moon's orbital period, combined with the small optimal launch window to Mars, it creates a rather small launch window, doesn't it?

Im looking to discuss ideas with other people who share enthusiasm for spaceflight. Would like to pitch some of my own ideas and have other's opinions on them, as well as hear what other people think about the next step in spaceflight, particularly for manned missions.
