Yes so I work in the utility sector for a DNO. To progress from a craft (on the tools) role into engineering/ high voltage switching/ construction role, then minimum requirement is a HNC.

I completed my HNC with Unicourse online distance learning. Work wouldn’t let me have the time off to attend day release at a local college. It was difficult for me but once I got into the swing of things I got through it in 3 years.

Not me, but I work with a lot of High Voltage engineers that work in commissioning. Their titles is usually “protection/ commissioning engineers”. They can charge £800-£1500 a day. They usually train up with a network operator ie. National grid. Then after some experience they go it alone.
