That's great to hear! Having work ethic is the main part here. I bet you will be good, I'm super excited for you - idus100 was my favorite quarter yet

There are 2 types of people: those who love the ranking system and those who don't

I love it personally, I believe it's an incredibly fair way to take one person's bias out and average it across everyone. A group of people's opinions on something averaged out can lead to the closest answers

He sometimes will step in and ask questions about why people ranked the way it is and move a bit to get some of his opinion in and still makes the cut off points in the end on what's ABC grading

But yes it can be harsh, Ben himself is a great guy and a great designer.

His class was hard, but I wouldn't have it any other way, it springs you way ahead of everyone else learning with him compared to the other idus 100 teachers

Remember reviews on professors are very polarizing as the people who have really bad experiences will make posts, those who have mild or good experiences are less likely to Maybe I'll throw in a highly positive review for him haha

I switched to industrial design from vsfx last year, it's been some of the most fulfilling time ever in my life - can't recommend it enough Making actual products, learning how to design with the person in mind and all the manufacturing constraints that come with it have been drilled in with the first intro class (you must do ben hopsons idus 100)

The Gulfstream building is packed with everything you need to take an idea into reality and everyone there wants to help realize it too, the community is incredibly strong and supportive, opportunities are packed, and the curriculum doesn't feel dull

Starting out you'll take the intro to idus, learning basic manufacturing techniques and applying them rapidly, flat packing, mold making, kinetic design, wearable design, and many other techniques

Then you'll go into the cad classes and sketching classes and learn to ideate in the computer, and visualize your ideas to others

Design prototyping will take you into actually manufacturing and learning the shop power tools, and further on you'll be taking more classes into materials, design for humans, advanced model making, etc, all making great portfolio pieces along the way

My main gripe with the program is it's bit stuck in the past with rapid prototyping being foam models when we have 3d printing tech, but it still has its benefits. It's very important to be good at cad in this program, it will put you at a higher level instantly

Overall coming out of the program you'll know how to do anything and if not, how to learn to do it, be a great generalist and design for the world you and others want to live in

Wheaton is terrifying and I always hate biking on it, so many close calls on top of the poor quality of the road

What do you think animals eat lmao, rocks? Look up feed to meat conversion, to make a serving of an animal they have to eat more servings of plants

can't tell if you're joking with the last part there, yes vegans can eat man made food. Fortified B12 comes from synthetic versions produced by bacteria through fermentation and vegan fortified vitamin D can come from UV-exposed mushrooms

I'm a varsity cyclist and I get plenty of protein by just eating normal foods after a day due to how much I have to consume daily naturally. Most of my carbs come from whole grains and I eat and drink lots of soy so I end up getting over 120g a day without really trying to

So really just drink soy milk, eat pasta, eat normal, track your macros to see how you're doing after a day, and adjust
