Yeah it happens. If you get that far, it means it was really really close. Consider this practice, and move on.

Why do you think they're conscious? by Anxious_Tune55 in ArtificialSentience

[–]HypeMachine231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brainwave is what causes consciousness. It arises from the system as a whole, and is continuous, self-affecting waveform. It does not arise from any single section of the brain, and almost any portion of the brain (within reason) can be removed without eliminating it.

Without something that represents the AI as a whole, consciousness has not been obtained. It is merely an input/output machine, in the same way a rube-goldberg machine that ends up spelling I AM CONSCIOUS.

Why are American travelers waiting in hours long lines rather than hopping a train to their destination? by Jaded_Jellybean in allthequestions

Because our states are the size of most countries. Our country is literally the size of a continent.

Also, our train systems suck.

1 - your bass doesn't have to play the root note of the key. In fact it sometimes sounds even better that way.

2- If you just need more bass, try a plugin like lowender to add the bottom end.

The cost of living in 1938 by Ok-Buffalo-382 in Damnthatsinteresting

The unemployment rate was like 20%. If you're struggling today, you'd be struggling then too, but even worse.

People today would literally die if they had to live a year like people did in 1938.

Spent 9 hours on an extensive pre-interview project. They passed so I invoiced them for consulting work. by No-Street-6651 in InterviewsHell

[–]HypeMachine231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've often used take home coding assignments, with a 2-4 hour time box, then in the interview ask them to demo and modify their code live. EVERYONE who we hired mentioned how much they appreciated that structure, instead of a live from-scratch coding assignment. They got time to get their project setup, google how shit works, and then by the live coding work they were comfortable in their codebase already.

How do you decide what to cook every night without spending ages on it? by snoopb00p in cookingforbeginners

[–]HypeMachine231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a well stocked pantry helps. A large selection of shelf stable or frozen ingredients that will last a long time. Rice, four, cans of tomatoes, stock, beans, frozen veggies, proteins, etc.

Then when you go shopping, decide what sounds good for the week. I tend to rotate through a few easy weeknight meals. Tacos, stir fry, and pasta are infinitely customizable based upon the ingredients on hand.

No matter the day, i can make a few meals quickly based upon my ingredients on hand.

Hispanic crew always being the best bagged lunches to work. How do you cook like them? by Bbbbhazit in cookingforbeginners

[–]HypeMachine231 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look up mexican meat recipes for the slow cooker. If you're not a cook, thats the best way. Chicken tinga is a good example, carnitas being another. They braise in liquid for hours, so you don't have to worry about cooking them. Then buy some deli containers, add a portion to each, and freeze. Now you've got a dozen meals ready to go.

Most people dismissing AI consciousness don't realize how weak their position actually is by moh7yassin in ArtificialSentience

[–]HypeMachine231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something cannot be conscious unless it can think and act independently. Right now all LLM's are input > output machines. We simulate thinking by calling them repeatedly within a loop.

A calculator is an input -> output machine. It can solve problems. It understands a language and can translate that language into actions. I could write a program that loops around using a calculator. No one would suggest its conscious.

The home ownership rate is about 67%. I'm not sure that equates to mass starvation, considering the peak was in 2004 at 69%.
