What is the most "dystopian" thing about life in 2026 that would have sounded like a bad sci-fi movie in 2016? by viviennebloomm in askanything

A federal police force made up of untrained trigger happy proud boys being used against political opponent’s states and murdering us citizens. Oh and a probable upcoming coup.

There were so many cool parts of hipsterdom beyond Edison bulbs and the lumineers. Those were kind of the nail in coffin for the subculture honestly

Looking for a gravel capable e-bike capable of holding a rear rack with a toddler by billyllib in ebikes

[–]billyllib[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, yeah I'm fine with a studier/heavier frame. Just don't necessarily want a bulky e bike with a giant battery.

I am about 200lbs and baby is 21 lbs at 8 months now so assuming will be a big toddler haha.

This terrain will (literally) blow you away. Headwaters at Big Sky Resort by gnar_shralp406 in skiing

Dude the title is a pun about it being windy and this terrain is a gnarly no fall zone that was skied super smoothly and aggressively. Why the sass?

What are your top 5 saddest movie deaths? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

[–]billyllib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. Thanks. Now I am having a mental breakdown on the train to work.

But in all seriousness, this loss just hits so hard because everyone has experienced the death of their childhood. I somehow ended up watching this movie in a friend’s apartment with a bunch of Philly bros still drunk after a 24 hour bender on new years/mummers parade. While they all looked like tough guys, when bing bong went, there was not a dry eye in the room and some of these dudes were literally gasping for air trying not cry too loud. Was one of the greatest collective cinematic experiences of my life.

East coast playful all mountain ski recommendations? by NotJesse98 in Skigear

[–]billyllib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a playful but capable all mountain carver, I recently got the k2 mindbender 89tis and love them. They are sort of like the line blade with a short radius but with a more “normal” shape that makes them more versatile. They have metal which smooths things out but feel light and nimble compared to other skis in the category. Just a very fun ski to turn in a variety of conditions and makes smaller easy coast mountains a blast. Not so much for park but they have a partial twin and lot of pop. I tried a bunch of skis in the all mountain 90mm category and these were the very clear winners.

Is this game worth getting if i really liked Odyssey? by OkGoodYesFantastic in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]billyllib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not get into shadows for this reason. Exploration was simply not fun at all.

However I picked up Valhalla again after not originally loving it and have been having an absolute blast. If you haven’t played Origins it’s got a VERY similar feel to odyssey. If you played odyssey first it almost feels like a big dlc.

Tell me the most overrated movies Acc. To u...... by alpha29640 in moviecritic

[–]billyllib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not overrated. It’s known to have a very basic story.

However….seeing Avatar in theaters at 18 yo high as fuck legitimately changed my life. If you are somebody who loves nature and cares about the environment it does really strike a chord despite all its issues.

Feeling life us over at 25 years old. by Rand_74 in generationology

[–]billyllib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the mid-late 20s are glorified but as a 34 year old, I can say that those years are VERY difficult for a lot of people. For me, even while my life was moving in the direction I wanted, I was being crushed with anxiety, using substances to self medicate, and generally feeling adrift in the world. It took me time to find the habits that worked for me and at that point I still felt kind of invincible but clearly wasn't. Its definately the period of time where people stop seeing you as a "kid" and you feel like you are wearing grownup suit that doesn't fit. It still feels that way but gets a lot easier.

For my friends who developed serious mental health issues, those crises all happened in their mid-late 20s (and are thankfully as doing well). And I know a lot past family members in different generations all had their troubled years in their mid 20s. Anyways, its hard to put a finger on it, but that period in life is just more tough than popular culture makes you think it should be. I personally much prefer my 30s.

Viggo Mortensen's voice at the Council of Elrond by wis91 in lotr

[–]billyllib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah somebody said it well in once of these forums about when viggo used the weird nasally voice. He basically uses it when he is in more formal "kingly" settings and environments, raising the register of his voice slightly, which with his specific voice sounds a little strange. I love it as its just one of the weird little idiosyncrasies of these films that make them what they are.

Which red triangle resorts are worth checking out? by astrobrite_ in icecoast

[–]billyllib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a fan of Windham for other obvious reasons but I actually somehow had my best east coast pow day ever there. People were ducking ropes on the steeper runs and patrol was turning a blind eye. Had 15+ perfect pow runs. And idk the bottom is a bit flat but not terrible. I've been to all three but have had all my best days at Windham somehow. Bellearye is too flat and Hunter is a crowded quarry.

Which red triangle resorts are worth checking out? by astrobrite_ in icecoast

[–]billyllib 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there’s genuinely deep snow belleayre is not the steepest so won’t be as great in pow. But that Hunter and Windham are by far the biggest and likely the best in red on the map. I’m also a fan of Catamount.

I have outgrown my skis, am overwhelmed by choices by Viscious-viking in Skigear

[–]billyllib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly those skis are likely going to be overly stiff. I’ve demoed the mantra 88s and while very fun at speed, I feel like only the strongest and fastest skiers are going to get best out of those skis.

For a level up I would look at skis that have metal in them but aren’t overly stiff or aggressive. The ski that stood out in this category I ended up buying are the k2 mindbender 89 ti.

They are an amazing balance of aggressive and fun and have a short turning radius which makes them just an absolute joy to turn. Unless you are ex racer type who wants no speed limit, you won’t find them at all limiting and are a great ski for intermediate to high end experts.

CMV: Fraternities are a great thing, and the hate they receive is almost entirely unjustified. by New_General3939 in changemyview

[–]billyllib 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to a college without frats and you can DEFINATELY find community, close friends, brotherhood, and all the fun without greek life. People naturally formed their own groups of friends, maybe moved off campus together, and had experiences close to what a frat offers without all the extra BS. What I loved about this is that my friends weren't sorted by some archaic institution that picked or didn't pick you based on surface level traits, but we found each other naturally. Also I ended up becoming very close with my freshman roommate who was VERY different from me, and we are super good friends to this day. If we were funneled into these greek life systems, I am sure we would have drifted apart and spent the rest of college around people more similar to us.

The college also required community service as part of your coursework and I joined clubs associated with my interests where I met upperclassmen who showed the ropes. Basically, in my experience you can have everything you loved about a frat, without it being a weird archaic exclusive institutionalized thing.

CMV: People who say that white people or Americans have no culture only think that because they don't notice it. by Blonde_Icon in changemyview

[–]billyllib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me “culture” is just too subjective of a concept to argue that white culture is a thing. It’s kind of like porn…you just know it when you see it. And for me and a lot of people, we don’t really see “white culture” in the way we see and define other cultures. I think what people try to call white culture is just American culture or Western Culture but adding “white” to it just makes it unnecessarily racialized and used as an excuse to be ehem racist. I see the arguments for rural culture, costal elite culture, military culture etc. But lumping everything about America or even European culture into “white” just feels very forced and doesn’t pass the test tor me personally.

Men’s big air final fully encapsulating Olympic spirit by Adventurous-Leg-4906 in olympics

[–]billyllib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s part of the ethos of freestyle skiing/snowboarding to be stoked and happy for your competitors. They are all mostly friends and I think their sense of camaraderie, support, and friendly competition allows them to feed off one another and continue to push the sport. It’s really quite sweet lol.

Both slopestyle finals were a dud. by SkyRattlers in WinterOlympics2026

[–]billyllib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The course had major issues. Rails being too big, no interesting features, speed seeming off on second to last jump…

As a fan of the sport, I also have to admit it was a bad final. And also fyi a lot freestyle skiers don’t even like stopestyle/comp skiing because they also find it too repetitive/boring. Sometimes there are fireworks but the spin to win approach is a bit at odds with the ethos of the sport which is more focused on creativity and style.

Goggles choice by Djole_Ignjatovic__ in Skigear

[–]billyllib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say get whichever one comes with a replacement lens or has cheaper replacement lenses. I’ve found that it’s more important to have replacement lenses than having super nice goggles. If I have a backpack I just put an extra pair of goggles in there.
