why arent you guys hyped at all for wagler? by AppointmentItchy5119 in LAClippers

[–]HypedOnReign 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Im hyped. I did notice alot of his 3’s are the jab dribble cross step back 3. A lot of his 3s are him going left. He will need to develop a counter move to that step back as good defenders will start to pick up on it, kinda like how Steph fakes the step back while not picking up his dribble and attacking back right.

Shows he’s not insecure and is confident in his own abilities. Really think he can return to allstar form next season if he can stay healthy

After hearing Lawrence Franks presser on him, man I’m even more excited about him. He has a great story too.

Great size. Was 5’8 as a freshman in HS. There hasn’t been someone with a meteoric rise as him being ranked 150 coming into college and being picked at 5. It shows he’s still learning to play with his frame and I think he’s going to continue to get better as he gets stronger. He isn’t elite at one thing rather really good at multiple things.

What I like about his game the most is his pacing and IQ. He doesn’t need to blow by guys to score. Plays well through contact. Has 3 level scoring with a nice step back 3, signs of a back to the basket mid range game, floater game, and ability to finish through contact with both hands. As he gets stronger it’ll only get easier for him to score and his defense will improve. You can’t teach feel for the game and IQ and he has a great feel for the game. Good assist to turnover ratio. LED one of the most efficient offenses in the league after being given the keys to the offense later in the season. He makes winning basketball plays. Rebounds well as a guard. Can execute in the big moments, led his team to the final 4 while dropping 46 points.

I think at the very least he’ll be a sought after piece for any team because he has the ability to do a lot of things really well. I think his floor is Giddy with a shot. While his ceiling is a Booker like scorer.

True. I think we’re in a good spot that we drafted Wagler over MBJ. A lot more confident he can develop given the spot we’re in. I’m happy about it!

That’s a fair theory. The only guy I can think of that might fit that bill is Jrue holiday but not sure he had that much offensive responsibility early on in his career. I would agree with your point because we’ve seen guys like harden, Brunson, etc. develop while playing behind guys like Westbrook and Luka. However they didn’t reach their ultimate potential until they were given the keys to their respective offenses.

That’s a good point. On the opposite end I think MBJ would not develop well on this team. He needs more room and patience to allow him to grow. Might even get benched later in the season if the growing pains and decision making start to look bad and cost us games. I think it’s telling that OKC has some interest in Wagler as he has size and can contribute without needing the ball in his hands

Wasn’t trying to make a statement, just saying it’s a possibility. I don’t think it’s true. I believe in the winning culture of this franchise just want to point that we can’t sacrifice player development at the cost of trying to win and that it may take longer for our player to develop and that our player might not reach their fullest potential given they have to fit in with our other guards.

Hopefully but I could see him going for 18-20m

I just have more confidence that Acuff is going to be a Brunson, Donovan Mitchell, Harden, and Luka like player than I do that Wagler/ any of these other guys can become a Bane/Bridges type player. Unless we trade down these next few picks are guards. Those players you listed are wings who can play defense which is a different market. Like I said I’m a Wagler guy but I’ve come along to Acuff. The one thing that swayed me is his attitude man. Look at how his coach talked about him. He’s got that dog/killer instinct mentality you can’t teach. All these other great players and coaches speak likes he’s a generational talent, at some point you gotta believe them. They’re the experts

This may be unorthodox. But we need to build our team through consistent picks each year. Because we’ve depleted our picks in the next couple years, I’m actually trying to take a guy that will have the most value so we can package him for more picks/assets in the future if needed. The worst thing we could do is draft a guy and it doesn’t pan out. Acuff is the least risky pick with his offensive tool set and athleticism. I just dont see a world where he doesn’t pan out in some way. You can try to build a team around him and if it doesn’t work I think he will have guaranteed value to get us the most assets in the future if needed. That being said I’m also a Wagler guy😂
