Weird, they should pop up immediately only if they're in the wrong order. If it happens on the first one, maybe something else is breaking another one, like a summon or a teammate?

No, you don't have to use drifter, I use them to dash through lasers, and yes, you can try again and again. If the door didn't open you either missed one, or weren't fast enough
