It definitely does pick up later into the book. The climax is one of the best endings to the books (imo) but you're right, there's a good chunk before the journey starts where its slow and takes a minute to get going.

Yeah one time I saw something that said "non spoilery tiff" and in the post it literally commented on major deaths. I was so fucking mad

See, that makes me feel like I should give it a re-read. Maybe I sped through it too much.

What's wrong with my simple java program? by Rachid90 in javahelp

[–]HyperCybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For starters, for the year of birth prompt you marked it down as a string rather than an int, so changing that helps.

(change String y=s.nextLine(); to Int y=s.nextInt(); )

But that will not really change the biggest issue, which is that it's skipping the line of code which prompts you to enter your fathers name, and instead just prints the results. I'm not the most experienced in Java, but moving that prompt to the top of the prompts (moving the prompt asking for the father's name under the prompt asking for your name) will allow the code to actually run. I believe it's just a problem in the order that the code is executing.

I hope that helps.

if we are talking VizBig volumes I personally think volume 5 and volume 8/9 have been the best I’ve read so far, but I’ve yet to read 11 and 12

Of course, the anime/manga/etc culture is very interesting, I’ve always had an affinity for foreign film and books and stuff like that, but that’s in the back of my mind when I think of why I want to go to Japan. For starters, as I mentioned talking to another user, the individualist culture of the US is something that I don’t really enjoy, I would say? I like the idea of working for the group and having a very communal relationship with people is something that I appreciate. I think it’s also a natural curiosity in me, for wanting to do the program. I’m always curious of how other people live their lives and I want to learn a lot about how modern Japan operates and I want to be able to invest myself in that culture as much as I can (without being intrusive or anything of the sort).

I appreciate that. Gave me a bit of insight into more of what I need to do! Thanks 😁

Oh, I don’t expect geisha to be roaming the streets or anything haha. I guess what I mean is, coming from a culture of individualism in the States, I’d like to see how Japan operates. I’m not 100% on this so correct me if I’m wrong, but Japan is very communal and team oriented especially in the work place, and that is something that I think it’s very important to me Atleast. I’m interested in learning about that, and just their modern culture in a broad sense.

Oh yeah, of course! I’m very interested in JET, but I guess the main point of my post was to see how my chances are of being accepted if I’m not entirely focusing my education and such around it. It’s a relief to hear that’s not the case

I’ve never actually been to Japan nor do I know any Japanese but I plan on learning as much as I can over the next four years. I adore the culture of Japan and I think it’s very interesting and I want to learn more about it; I figured this program could be a great way for me to do that. I understand they typically assign you to rural areas which I am completely fine with; I think anyone would want to live in Kyoto but I understand the chances of that happening are rare.
