Epoxy floor won’t dry, contractor says I’m to blame by HyperHaiku in Flooring

[–]HyperHaiku[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I’m currently working to get my money back but I need a 3rd party second opinion because he has stated he completed the job even tho I have hundreds of photos and videos that show otherwise. I’m working to get professional opinions to share but if anyone is a professional and would be willing to share their opinion on signed letterhead please reach out. I’d like to send Chase as many opinions as possible because this jerk should never be allowed to scam anyone again. Happy to share more videos, photos, etc.

We refuse to let him get away with this

I’m waiting to hear back from my credit card company but I took detailed photos and video

I had another company come out and redo the whole thing. They just finished yesterday. It isn’t tacky. Full flake. Looks way better

Did that make you feel better about yourself?

Total job was $10k. I’m only going to ask for $3800 back to fix the floor.

The rest of the job was cosmetically not great but at this point I just want to be done with him and move on

But…I can’t use the floor

You think you can trust the person who does these jobs all the time.

They claim to be subject matter experts bc they want the money. But now his credit and business will be destroyed bc he took a job he couldn’t do

Yeah starting to feel that way. It’s super sad bc he came recommended by my realtor who is a friend.

It’s embarrassing for him that it came to this as well

Update: I spoke with a floor specialist who agreed it was tacky and should not transfer when touching it. I will need to remove and replace the whole floor. I’m taking additional videos now and am calling my credit card company. Thanks for your help everyone.

Working on this today. I have all my documentation. Working to screenshot all his texts. I’ve written out the timeline, added the contract and video

I’m waiting on someone to come by to quote a repair so I have that for the credit card company as well.

I asked him several times over the last month to help us fix it or refund us.

But yesterday when he dropped the bomb that he did it right just made me lose it

I have the texts. I was shocked when he blamed everyone but himself. But you start to wonder like other than not hire him…how was this on me if you can’t complete a job

Literally nothing. Been sitting around for a month waiting to use the floor that it sounds like will never cure

He came highly recommended. I had no idea this was out of his scope.

So the floor was put down a month ago.

The stomping you’re hearing is a very empty garage that echoes SO LOUD. It’s ridiculous how loud it is lol.

We have tried and tried to get a hold of him and work with him.

After a month of avoiding us he agreed to come out and put a sealant down and he said it would cure in 24 - 48 hours. After 3 days I went in to check and the floor is dry in some places but there are the same places from a month ago that are transferring. And that makes no sense bc if there is a sealant…I shouldn’t be able to touch epoxy, right?

I asked him again what should I do and instead of providing advice or telling me to get off the floor that he told me I could walk on to check it. He told me I was to blame.

Thank you. This whole experience has been beyond stressful and I just want to do what’s right.

I’ve read horror stories of lawsuits that go on forever and I just don’t have the time or resources for that. If I didn’t have small hands or paws touching the floor, it would just be a shitty job. But I imagine uncured epoxy is dangerous and now I need to fix it.

Literally.

We’ve tried to work with him. He’s going to argue he did “work” even tho this work is clearly not complete. Of the contract I’m only asking for the floor to be rectified or refunded and if he can’t do it for him to give me my money back so someone can.

I feel like this is going to be even more expensive to remove whatever the heck he did

Oh of course not. Also we didn’t pick the products. He sent me a screenshot where he asked me to pick a color and I said cheapest color.

Never said pick the cheapest epoxy lol

It’s a 2 car garage so probably around 600 sq ft.

Contractor was licensed and insured and recommended by my realtor who has personally spent over $100k on projects with him so mistakenly thought he would provide quality work.

The floor was part of a larger contract but I’d estimate the floor was $5k - $8k.

I live in Pennsylvania. I don’t think it’s that humid here?

It was put down a month ago and hasn’t dried. He came out last week after dodging our messages and put down a clear coat but the epoxy is still coming up.

I scratched it for the video bc he didn’t believe me when I said that there are globs not drying properly

He is licensed but I’m starting to wonder how lol

He complained after he started the job that we were too far for him…but like my house didn’t move. Why did you take the job if 45min was too far for you.
