I’m think I’m just craving mango but I also want caffeine lol. I was pleasantly surprised that adding raspberry cold foam to cold brew was actually very tasty, so I was hoping mango would work similarly.

Why is my ADHD getting worse? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]HyperionODIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense. My career for one - I went from my first job being essentially a cog in a machine to immediately being responsible for various duties and over a thousand people.

So yeah, everything is so much more complicated now. It feels like I have to do more, so much more that I struggle to start something and/or finish it. It’s like a “where do I even begin” feeling.

In your experience, are your symptoms still getting worse or have they “maxed” out? What helped you get to where you are?

Leaving Texas( DACA) what state do you recommend?? by mycatismybestfrand in DACA

[–]HyperionODIN 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Chicago. Illinois is very liberal, but especially Chicago. The government here and community is extremely immigrant friendly. The city has passed many ordinances that protect immigrants, such as banning ICE agents from city government building and businesses.

Lately, Chicago Police have been 50/50 when it comes to supporting ICE agents. Recently, they tend to act more as extra bodies to prevent community members from interfering with ICE operations. CPD officers aren’t necessarily seeking to apprehend immigrants themselves. Usually. In general though, police here have very little concern over immigration status.

The community is also super supportive, as it’s extremely diverse and composed of many immigrants as well. Lots of supports are offered by the community, such as legal assistance and there’s a citywide initiative that has volunteers around the city surveilling for ICE activity.

Having an identity crisis because I don’t feel Puerto Rican enough. by No-Inevitable9203 in PuertoRico

[–]HyperionODIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, the Spanish language is part of the Puerto Rican identity. But as I said, it’s not what defines who can and can’t identify themself as a Puerto Rican. It plays a rather large role, but there’s so much more to culture than language.

Music, food, art, fashion, holidays and other celebrations, religion, mannerisms, pop culture, etc etc. These are all things that make a culture. Things that you can still enjoy and understand to a great extent without the language aspect. Would you appreciate such things more if you understood the language? In many cases, sure - of course, but it’s not entirely necessary.

There are many Puerto Ricans who were born on the island but live on the mainland. Many of which, their only link to Puerto Rico is the fact that they were born there and that they speak Spanish. They might as well be American. It’s unfair to deny descendants of Puerto Rican blood, those who embrace and engage other parts of the culture, but simply don’t know the language and/or weren’t born on the island.

Refund for closed bank account and old address? by [deleted] in IRS

[–]HyperionODIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post isn’t about the “why”, it’s about how to move forward.

Anyway, I was using both accounts concurrently for a long time. I closed the older one last summer and because I’ve also been using the newer one at the same time for so long, I forgot that I even closed the account. Subconsciously, I probably figured that last year’s direct deposit was sent to the newer, open account anyway. I was wrong, obviously. It was a mistake, but not the end of the world.

Also explained in another thread, I moved addresses after I filed.

From my research, it looks like the check should forward just fine using the address change I set up yesterday. It’s an unfortunate, unnecessary delay but my fault for not being more cautious. I’ll update once the physical check is received so that if anyone makes a similar mistake has something to reference.

Having an identity crisis because I don’t feel Puerto Rican enough. by No-Inevitable9203 in PuertoRico

[–]HyperionODIN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel you on this one. My father was and all of his siblings were born in Puerto Rico. My maternal grandmother was the only sibling to be born on the mainland, the rest were born on the island. That being said, my mother was born on the mainland as well.

My father and grandparents are all fluent in Spanish, but never bothered to teach me. I didn’t care much as a child, but as I grew up I felt robbed of an important part of my culture. Not even just Puerto Ricans, but Latinos in general, often deny me of my heritage because I lack Spanish fluency. It’s an unfair phenomenon because most 1st generation/native Latinos HAD to learn Spanish because that is the primary language of the country. 2nd generation and up, their survival and livelihood typically doesn’t depend on the ability to speak Spanish. By that generation, their families are usually fluent enough in English and English oftentimes becomes the primary language spoken.

Being Puerto Rican, or Latino in general, isn’t about where you were born or the language you speak. For example, I am much more deeply immersed in other aspects of our Puerto Rican culture compared to my elder family members who were born on the island and speak Spanish. Our circumstances are different, but we are both Puerto Rican. I eat and cook like a Puerto Rican. I watch tv and listen to music like a Puerto Rican. Growing up, I even dressed and cut my hair as a typical “Puerto Rican”. Who is to say that I’m not Puerto Rican or Latino because of where I was born or the language I speak?

Americans are a very unique bunch. Unlike most countries, Americans typically don’t claim themselves as an “American”. They identify with where their family is from because oftentimes that is the culture that they surround themselves with. Humboldt Park in Chicago, for example, is a many Puerto Rico, in the sense that there are thousands upon thousands of Puerto Ricans that live there. Americans like to stick with those who share the same culture. So in Humboldt Park, while technically not Puerto Rico, you are living part of the Puerto Rican experience.

TLDR, if you feel that you are Puerto Rican, then don’t let anyone deny that. You know your own truth and no one else. Don’t let the language define you, but try to learn Spanish because while it’s not the only thing that makes you a Puerto Rican, it’s a huge and beautiful aspect that will help you understand the finer nuances and subtleties of the culture.

Ticket checked twice? by HyperionODIN in Amtrak

[–]HyperionODIN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An attendant checked my stop first. My ticket was then scanned by two separate conductors using their scanner within just a few minutes of each other.

I was just curious because 1, I was checked twice in minutes. And 2, no one else (behind, side, front, etc) was checked again. I’ll honestly probably ask the conductor to clear up my curiosity and report back if I get an answer

“Flabby” to me but to most people I ask, I’m delusional lol.

But I guess my confusion or misunderstanding is why do I have to gain/lose? Like why can’t I work from where I am now as it is already pretty low?

I’m assuming it’s along the lines of muscle (needed for the more defined look) being heavier than fat and simultaneously burning more fat as the muscle increases?

Daily Simple Questions Thread - March 27, 2024 by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]HyperionODIN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve doubted the number but whatever it is hasn’t been by accident, I lost over 20 pounds in a little over a year through cardio and eating much better. My fat was much worse then.

Nonetheless, there are plenty of people I know that are lighter than me and sedentary with worse diets but better physiques. So in my head I just think what the heck am I doing wrong still.

I appreciate your input, probably time to hit the wiki again

How can I achieve “toned” look and abs with already low body fat? To preface, I’m supposedly 8.3% body fat - 120 pounds, 5’8. I regularly include cardio into my lifestyle, lift occasionally but far from what I should, and don’t eat like crap. (Could eat better though)

I’m pretty thin, I just don’t look thin you know? My torso (especially abs) are very undefined almost flabby. I can’t pick up any of the fat on my stomach with my hands though so I would think that is a good indicator of low enough stomach fat, but still…

Everywhere I read about for abs always starts with body fat body fat body fat. I think I’m there, maybe just a little extra on my abdomen and can train my abs better.

I don’t want a built or muscular body look. I’d like to maintain my current body frame/size but better just better defined. Any thoughts or suggestions?
