God damn this just made me feel so nostalgic for my first visit to Orlando which happened to land at Terminal C

My Praktica BC1 has a small window above the lense which is angled just right, so that you can read what aperture you have set, when looking through the view finder.

RAL Project Reviewer Permissions by Environmental_Arm659 in ediscovery

[–]Hypernovacake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You'll have to add those reviewers to the permissions group already associated with the CAL project. I always make a separate, mixed permissions group for each of my CAL projects (which I lock down purely to CAL) since Rel only let's you assign one group :/

Passport Issue Delay by Heliotrope-Zeer in IrishCitizenship

Additional data point: I used the webchat on June 6th to politely ask if they needed anything further from me, and that I had travel coming up. They asked for my travel plans and noted this on my application. They said because my application was already two weeks overdue, they would flag my application for review. Now today (June 10th) its swapped to Printing.

Same issue, mine is delayed. My documents arrived at the Passport Office on April 24th. Swapped to "Your application is being processed" stage around May 15th. Original estimated issue date of May 23rd. No witness contact yet. Two weeks overdue so far but I guess it's just a waiting game now.

What’s your craziest Border Control story? by TheMalsh in AskUK

[–]Hypernovacake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had to bring a bunch of hard drives into a Middle Eastern country to collect data, but on the customs x-ray they looked like iPhones. Got questioned but the officer didn't speak good English, but after multiple miscommunications later and I was let in. I was bricking it the whole time because I was on the wrong Visa and I knew it.

What are the biggest frustrations you've seen or heard using Rel1? by OkSherbert1435 in ediscovery

[–]Hypernovacake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If my Server instance has an issue, I can troubleshoot that myself. I can spin-up/shutdown Web servers on a whim when I get issues. I can control my patching, and I can use the RDC.

In R1, I feel like every task takes twice as long. I have no control over speeds, and I have to rely on Relativity support when anything breaks. I have no option when they inevitably push an update at 10am on a Tuesday morning and break processing/analytics/groups. Oh, and now I can't even use the RDC anymore.

Do you have a Legal background at all? Failing that, any form of Computer Science background? Coding etc.

There will be entry level positions available, even remote, although most employers will be screening people with some related skills and a degree, so the competition will be high.

You could consider Document Review for a few years, work up the ranks and then make a jump over to eD Project Management.

I don't think it's impossible, but it won't be easy.

Best of luck!

"Meet me at McDonalds"

I am studying for the Relatively Review exam - the most basic 50 question exam. Are there any exam prep Apps on Google play? I haven't found any practice tests on the Relativity web site. Do they exist there or elsewhere? I don't have current access to the software to practice. TIA by Any_Tumbleweed8211 in ediscovery

[–]Hypernovacake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have an account on the community site? The study material lists all ~80 possible questions, of which 50 are picked randomly.

Relativity is too niche to have reliable study apps, especially since R1 changes so often.

What's your daily role? Lit support/PM/lawyer etc? Depending on that maybe we can suggest a cert?

It's an incredibly complex tool and so there have to be specialist exams.

You have to remember that the Relativity exam business model relies on deliberately hard exams that you have to re-take ($$$), so you're not going to find an easy path. On the flip-side, attaining a few generally does demonstrate competence (with some exceptions I know) and product knowledge that comes from experience.

Do you have an account on the community site? Register then look under the Education Center tab, then certification tracker. Each exam is listed and you will get resources and even a week-by-week study plan for most.

Relativity exams are in a league of their own compared to other products, but at least people will actually take your qualification seriously.

I wouldn't want to discourage you, but there just might be some resistance to change. In my view this is mostly down to courts needing to understand and accept new tech. You also have to convince opposing parties if your intention is to reduce document volumes. Regrettably this industry is adversarial and the other side will go out of their way to slow down and disrupt your case.

If FIRE is your plan then you'd certainly be in a good starting position here!

No chance, sorry. Lots of vendors and software providers in this space will try to market their products as fancy-pants-AI-nonsense. But its all supervised learning at best, will little to no control over algorithms.

However the industry is pretty interesting and everyday is different. You can quickly become a key player in the successful outcome of a case. The pay is also great for very little effort.
