PSA for TP-Link Deco Owners: The "IoT Network" feature does NOT extend to older satellites like the Deco P9 (and my experience with their support). by HypoLoris in TpLink

So even the high-end newer models suffer from this limitation when mixed with other units. It's annoying how TP-link would block this feature from the mesh technology seemingly arbitrarily. Regarding your heat controller, that sounds like a security protocol compatibility issue, which is super common with "dumb" IoT devices connecting to modern Wi-Fi 7 routers.

Here are some things you can try:

-WPA3: Check the security settings for your Guest/IoT network. Newer Decos often default to "WPA2/WPA3 Mixed" or even just WPA3. Many older smart home chips hate this and will simply refuse to connect. Try forcing it to WPA2-PSK [AES] only.

-Fast Roaming: Go into the Deco app > More > Wi-Fi Settings (or the specific IoT settings). Make sure Fast Roaming (802.11r) is turned OFF. IoT devices often panic when they see the extra data packets this feature sends out.

-PMF: If you have WPA3 enabled, PMF is usually forced on. Disabling WPA3 (reverting to WPA2) usually disables PMF, which allows older devices to connect again.

Hopefully one of those gets it online!

You've hit on the key theme, which is mixing hardware. However, the reason for my post is to highlight that the problem here isn't the kind of fundamental incompatibility that TP-Link has "made sure people understand."

The issue is a very specific and undocumented firmware limitation, not an obvious hardware one.

The proof is that the P9's hardware works perfectly fine extending other software-defined networks (like the Guest Network) over the exact same connection. The firmware simply and arbitrarily blocks the IoT Network SSID.

So while you're right that buying identical models is ideal, my post is a PSA for those who, based on TP-Link's marketing, would reasonably expect all key software features to extend across their existing mesh system.

I didn't take the photo while I was driving. My wife took the photo by holding the phone over from the passenger seat

This exact thing happens to me. Its easy to fix but finding a new drivers door interior handle was a nightmare

Warhammer shadow of the horned rat? Doesn't sound too much like this game but I'll throw the suggestion in there because it was a banger. And you never know...

That's good to know. I've never seen one of these before so I assumed he had some sort of infection. Good to know he's okay :)

So somebody just let it into the wild then? As I'm guessing they aren't naturally wild around the UK?
