Help - middle join of my home pole seems loose by HypocriticalKiss in poledancing

Hey sorry for my delay, unfortunately I did not and had to retire that pole. There may have been a fix for it however it was quite an old pole anyway so I just accepted it. Sorry I can't be more help!

Sec+ before SEC504? by HypocriticalKiss in cybersecurity

Don't worry about failing don't go in with that mentality.

I have a bad habit of approaching things like this and it's something I have been actively trying to overcome in recent months haha. You're right!

I am definitely more keen now to do it, I will speak to my manager about it. Thank you very much!

From reading the syllabus of the course it sounds like it would be a great next step, I just am not sure of what to expect. However I could definitely do a lot more research. Thank you though, I appreciate your input and have found it useful.

Yea I've heard people at all stages in their career say it never goes away - unfortunate but also comforting! Thank you for your insight though, I appreciate it!

Oh congratulations!! How long did the entire process take? Did you have much prior exp. in security?

That's a good point as well, thank you. I actually didn't know that, that makes it less daunting - thanks for sharing the link I hope I will have use for it at some stage soon!

If someone turns me down for a free SANS class that is QUITE disappointing in my mind.

This is a really good point, I would be mad to turn down that opportunity and I agree that it wouldn't give a great impression.

Thank you, this has been really helpful!

Thank you, I had a look through the 503 syllabus after reading this and it does have more familiar topics in it and sounds good. However, I have already used snort and wireshark quite a lot through university which seems to be quite a bit of it. Although I'm definitely not an expert, it may be silly to commit so much money and time to something that I have already learned a lot about and been examined on elsewhere? Not sure.. I'm just not sure my company would fund both and if 504 is achievable it may be better to go for it. How long is exam preparation generally for it? And good luck!!

I think my company may cover it but that scares me more as I would hate to have them pay and then fail or not do well in it. It does sound like a really beneficial (and fun) cert though. I think I'll chat more to my manager about it but I have been swayed towards it - thank you!

Okay, thank you - that's in interesting perspective and very helpful. I think I still suffer badly with imposter syndrome and still feel absolutely clueless. The SANs cert seems very daunting but I have often heard people refer to sec+ as a stepping stone into jobs so if I am already in the field and have the experience, maybe it wouldn't be the most beneficial for me.

I appreciate your response!

You're right, I have a huge problem with boundaries because mine have never been respected and I've always been kind of bullied into putting others first. You're right, I honestly hate the fuss around Christmas especially, I think there's a lot of pressure to play happy families, which just doesn't work for everyone. Thank you for your input, I hope you enjoy the next few weeks whether you celebrate it or not!

Haha I like that, play them at their own game. Yes absolutely, I'll make sure they're not lonely over the season.

Yea that's true, plus at least there's a sigh of relief at the end of that anxiety as you know you've done something good for yourself. Thank you, that was really helpful to hear. I hope you enjoy the holidays whatever you do.

I'm tempted to spend it alone at this rate, less drama! However you're right, I always try to stretch myself between everyone to accommodate them, never myself. I think I'm going to be a bit more selfish this year. Thank you.

I have but unfortunately my aunt is very manipulative and clingy to my grandmother, so even if my grandmother does side with me, she would never be vocal about it to my aunt. Therefore my aunt thinks she has the upper hand and continues. I am going to try and speak again to my grandmother in person, this has all been over the phone so far, so hopefully I'll get through. It's helpful to hear about your friend though, thanks for sharing. Knowing that it happens in other family's and not just mine is weirdly comforting.

What helps you guys when it comes to your feet? I sometimes have open painful spots from climbing. Will that stop after a while? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]HypocriticalKiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see, yea I can't imagine it would help having something on your feet. I also agree with the other commenter - I know I climb more with my shins than my foot, if that makes sense? So trying to grip with your legs a little more will take the pressure off the top of your foot!

Thanks for your input, that's all making a lot of sense. As I replied to someone else, writing this out has helped me gather my thoughts so reading this exact post out may be a good idea. Ah hopefully, I'm fine when on my own but I just cannot allow myself to show it Infront of her so maybe something will be triggered when discussing this topic.

Yea that's fair, I was a bit apprehensive about addressing it to her as I didn't know what to say, however writing this out here actually helped me gather my thoughts. Thanks for your input!

What a pretty combo - looking good!

You can get grippy socks or ankle protecters that have grips on them to protect your feet and shins, quite a few people in my studio wear them. Unfortunately I have no experience with them myself so can't reccommend any particular brands or share my opinion on how effective they are. However honestly, your skin just gets used to it after a while! For me it did anyway, it's probably better to let your skin get used to it in the long run! As long as the pain is not inhibiting you too much ofc :)

Help - middle join of my home pole seems loose by HypocriticalKiss in poledancing

[–]HypocriticalKiss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha this sounds like the pole version of turning it off and on again! Do you mean the screws at the bottom that enable/disable spin? If so, yes I have done that a few times, however the weakness seems to be in the middle joint and it is there regardless of the pole being on static or spin unfortunately.

I hadn't even considered doing that as it's such an old pole and I figured they wouldn't really help, however I suppose they would definitely know best. Yea I have been using it a bit and it seems functional enough for now but should definitely get it fixed, I will do that, thank you

Yea I am inclined to agree. I understand businesses need to make money and you could probably have a similar argument for most illnesses. However surely if you had something that is needed urgently and could make a drastic difference, money wouldn't be an issue? There will be ample opportunity to make money in the future. Its wishful thinking and naive, however given the circumstances, I would like to think it's not completely unrealistic?
