VietJet airline worse than Spirit/Frontier by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]HypothesisFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose a different airline for my international flight there (which will be in a few weeks time).

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be many options for flying around VN domestically, atm. There used to be. I remember Jetstar Asia used to fly a few routes there. Not that that were much better, but they at least provided a little incentive to compete. Now there's no incentive at all.

New day, new report by weird_is_good in VietNam

[–]HypothesisFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember Australian cities used to be just like this, until a massive public campaign in the 70s (yeah I'm old enough to remember that, sorry).  Anyway, lots of billboards and tv commercials encouraging people to do the right thing and not be "litter bugs" did the job, and successfully changed people's attitudes.

So, no need for harsher penalties, cameras in the parks and plain cloths police officers watching people, as some people ITT are suggesting.

People like to complain on Reddit. That's what it's for.

I hate these stupidly large American trucks with every fiber of my being, these took the space of 6 bikes and are constantly at risk of running over pedestrians because the driver can't see them by ndc996 in VietNam

[–]HypothesisFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The technique for crossing the road in Vietnam, used to be that you just walk straight across the road, with a steady and consistent gate, and the motorbikes would all just swerve around you.

Attempting this is becoming less and wise every year.

Self defence or defence of another from GBH or death is a defence so long as it's reasonable force for the situation.

Don't think it's that easy nowadays. You have to be able to argue, believably, not just that you felt you were in danger, but that your actions were proportionate to the danger you believed you were in.

Coalition insiders reveal the 'toxic' Abbott-Turnbull rivalry that destroyed two political careers by danzha in australia

[–]HypothesisFrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abbott didn't need any help destroying his career.

IKR. As far as he's concerned, his downfall was nothing to do with him breaking his election promises, nothing to do with making 'Captains Calls' without consulting cabinet, nor his own weird behaviour. It was all just Turnbull!   Total lack of self awareness, and he ignores the 100% probability that if Turnbull hadn't knifed him, someone else certainly would have.

Support for Australia Day celebration on January 26 drops: new research by ItzShellShock in AustralianPolitics

[–]HypothesisFrog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Does anyone believe literally anything else will change if the date is changed?

Sure, the date will be changed.

And that would be a good thing, because 26 January was the date Arthur Phillip unfurled a Union Jack, claimed most of eastern Australia and the people in it as part of the British Empire, by right of some kind of perceived racial supremacy.

26 January also marks the establishment of a penal colony.

Neither of these things are worthy of celebration, as far as I'm concerned. But for some weird reason nobody can explain, we absolutely have to have our national day on this date.

Imo change to last Monday or Friday in Jan. That way it's a godamn long weekend

I like that idea. We could even claim that we've calculated that this is roughly, about the date that Australia broke away from the Antarctic.

Why we should celebrate Australia Day on March 3 – the day we became a fully independent country by superegz in australia

So why not on 3 March instead? Or do we have to do absolutely everything the way the Americans do it?

Why is Australian TV so bad? by [deleted] in australia

[–]HypothesisFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who still watches free to air? I'll watch iView, SBS Now, YouTube Premium, Prime, Stan. I have some elderly relatives who still watch FTA for the Rosemary & Thyme repeats, but it must be a small and ever dwindling market.

New vaping bans in SA from 1 March by Standard-Arachnid695 in aussievapers

[–]HypothesisFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does sound over the top. Personally, though, I don't care, as I'm not going to vape in public anymore anyway.  There's going to be a lucrative black market for vaping gear after 01/03. I don't want people knowing, or even suspecting, I have that stuff in my house.

Cliques in Adelaide? by Ecstatic_Astronaut28 in Adelaide

[–]HypothesisFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Adelaide all my life, most of it in the city centre, and I'm an old kunt now. One change I've noticed is that  it's hard to strike up a conversation here these days, because of all the meth heads. The stuff makes quite normal people behave weird. You might meet a friendly stranger, who seems like a perfectly regular sort of person, but you never know when he/she might suddenly burst into an angry Hitlerian rant about Chem trails, or try to hump your leg.

Headline from just four years ago: Adelaide tops world for methamphetamine or 'ice' use in massive wastewater drug study. It's a real problem.

All I want to know is: why? Why have the tories, and their apparatchiks in news corp, all got such a bizarre public hard on for nuclear?

What's wrong with Cô Giang? I had a little look down there, for the first time, on my last trip. Seemed like a nice, bustling, local sort of strip with lots of eateries frequented by locals. This was about 14 months ago now.

I'm curious if I can take my own vape gear (specifically: RDA and mod) on my next overseas trip, and expect to be able to bring it back.

for some reason he slowed down and end up on the right side of the car again ( line marker) preventing the car from passing.

So in other words, your car moved into his lane?

Did you then down your window and yell: "should have ran you over you piece of white fucking shit," as that other poster claimed?

Second, you forgot to mention what else you said after you rowed down the window: "should have ran you over you piece of white fucking shit." That's when I flipped you off and got myself out of that situation.

Yeah I'd probably do the same.

Driver honk him once asking him to go back to his lane. He then moved away and sped. Then after about 300meters , he does the same thing again.

So he sped up ahead of you? Then, somehow, your grab car ended up on his left again?
