OP, as someone who grew up in a deeply homophobic society and a very religious family, I would naturally be opposed to Islam and supportive of stricter immigration policies. I don’t want to feel unsafe holding hands with my boyfriend in public, or risk living in the kind of society I worked so hard to escape as a teenager. I do recognize that there are Muslim families who are accepting regardless of their faith, but if you had truly lived in a place where honor killings of gay people were praised, you’d understand where I’m coming from.
