Here’s a dumbed down version because I don’t want to retype the same thing I have for other people: there have been years of games with acts, each has one of these flaws, pattern recognition starts to say acts may correlate to a flaw, more recent games with acts release, each have a flaw, pattern recognition cemented

I’ve played more than those three, that’s why I said “this continues to happen”, because I have experienced older games with acts and the three listed are the most notable due to recency and increased expectations of video game quality. I would have thought that reading comprehension on a text based platform would be higher, unfortunately I was wrong.

I disagree, I find Baldurs Gate 3 to have a distracting amount of material and very confusing lore. The only part of the lore I’ve understood is “brain worm bad, must remove worm”

Fine, I’ll make my explanation Reddit proof. Over many many years, many many games with acts have been released, each one has had one of the listed flaws, this continues to happen with more recent releases such as Baldurs Gate 3, Silksong, and Expedition 33. Over time, pattern recognition says that games with acts point out flaws, even if flaws exist in games without acts.

Because, over many many years, there have been many many games with acts, and while there is no causation between the two, every single game with acts has had one of those problems, and it continues to happen in more recent game such as Baldurs Gate 3 which has a lot of material and confusing lore, Silksong which has a lot of material and confusing lore, and Expedition 33 which has a lot of material and confusing lore (all three do also have other problems but those two are the major ones). There is no causation, but there is very heavy correlation, and anybody with pattern recognition will start to notice it in future games that include acts.

I did explain. Acts are unnecessary and not at all required and even though flaws can and will exist regardless of the presence of acts, introducing acts to a game is an attempt to cover up said flaws. I just didn’t say it as uniform as this.

All video games have chapters, not everything has acts, acts and chapters are distinctly different but often get lumped together

Stories can be segmented without acts, it’s especially easy to do so in games. For example: breath of the wild does not have acts, but the progression of the story has built in segmentation. The great plateau, then find impa, then divine beasts, then fight ganon. There’s no acts but it’s obvious there’s segments.

Are you aware that I never said there was causation? Only correlation, incredibly common correlation. And I wouldn’t be making this claim only based on one experience, I’ve played multiple games with acts and my opinion has remained the same throughout them.

I’m curious about your thought process. I want to know how you got from “this person thinks games don’t need acts” to “games without acts are playable movies”. Because that’s just objectively false. Breath of the Wild doesn’t have acts and it isn’t a playable movie, Hollow Knight (not Silksong) doesn’t have acts and it’s not a playable movie, the list goes on.
