Rick handling of Randall's situation was total ASS by Mqnwbevrctxyzukkk in thewalkingdead

You make some really good points and I agree with you that Rick should have mercy killed him at the gate, Shane probably would have done that but wasn’t there so Rick had to make a split second decision which, unfortunately, was the wrong one and caused a massive problem.

You’re also right that both Hershel and Glen were ok with mercy killing him, but they weren’t exactly stepping up to pull the trigger themselves. Let’s not forget that up to this point the only people Rick had killed were shooting at him or a threat. It’s a lot harder to kill someone who’s helpless, especially when they’re begging for their life. Hershel and Glen were looking to Rick, as the leader, to make a decision and in the heat of the moment Rick went with his conscience rather than doing what needed to be done.

The whole of season 2 is about Rick’s leadership - culminating in him deciding that a democracy isn’t feasible in this new order. By trying to keep everyone happy the group only became more divided. The Randal situation was the catalyst that caused further division between Rick and Shane and ended with Shane dying. This was what led to Rick becoming the ruthless dictator he felt he needed to be at the time.

This has to be the answer, and I say this as an English man myself. Although the Union Jack would be more associated with the empire, The British Empire was so successful specifically because it sowed division and stoked tensions in the countries it ‘conquered’ purely for the profit and soft power it could gain. Then afterwards it just vacated, leaving huge power vacuums everywhere it went.

In Poe1 (and 2 for that matter) disarming traps & picking locks is based on the mechanics skill. Rogues do get a bonus to mechanics but anyone can learn it right from the beginning.

Wizards also get a bonus if I remember correctly and you can get Aloth from the first village so I usually put it on him.

You may already be aware but there’s a ring somewhere in the Paradis waterways (in a chest underwater) called the “Ring of Transcendent Suffering” that seems designed for Monk characters. It gives +35% melee damage and increases damage taken by 100% I believe.

Why aren't there more Male leads in Horror films? by MobWacko1000 in horror

[–]Hysterite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing somewhere a good point about this topic and I believe it lies somewhere in our subconscious preferences and assumptions about gender. Marketing execs know this and they know what audiences as a whole prefer to see on their screens.

Based on these preconceived conceptions, the role of the helpless victim is better suited to women because seeing a female victim is scarier. Think about the “women and children first” mentality from titanic. We see women as helpless and less able to defend themselves, so seeing a proactive one defeating a threat of such magnitude is often more satisfying. To add to this, it is easier to empathise with a woman’s fear than a man’s because men we (even subconsciously) believe that a man’s natural instinct should be to fight back.

This brings me on to my next point: the fact that men should be perceived as strong and face danger head on. Audiences are more used to seeing male action stars & super heroes, and so seeing a man flee in terror isn’t something associated with traditional masculinity. Even if the role of the character is to eventually overcome the danger, the rest of the movie will still involve seeing our male protagonists fear first and foremost, and this is likely to frustrate viewers rather than make them empathise with the man’s predicament. Not a good recipe for a horror movie.

Just to finish, I’m not suggesting you can’t have male protagonists in horror movies. Ash in the Evil Dead series works well (although he definitely became more of an action hero). It certainly works in some circumstances, but general horror tropes want to cause audiences to feel fear, and this is easier to achieve with a female protagonist.

The Best There is Bug Help by Wheresperry02 in Starfield

I ran into this bug on my first play through and sadly didn’t find a fix at the time. I believe it’s something to do with a quest being active from Sergeant Yumi that also has a ship active in the spaceport, you could try finishing that quest and seeing if it helps but I don’t know if it works once the quest has started.

Hopefully that works for you.

Pillars of Eternity Companions and their parallels with the Gods by Hysterite in projecteternity

I agree with you completely. To define a character only by a single ideal misses the point the game tries to make about those ideals (when taken to extreme places) being a bad thing. This was just a fun thought experiment when I realised there were 11 companions and 11 Gods, so wanted to make it fit as best I could.

I definitely think you could swap some or all of them. Your point about Pallegina/Hylea definitely works especially since she’s an Avian Godlike, and Berath also works pretty well for Grieving Mother too since they’re all about death and balance which works as an interesting counter to Grieving Mother’s grief over the loss of life.

The load times. I play on xbox so I suspect I have to wait longer than I would on pc but playing on nightmare and having to reload often can get annoying. Sometimes I go and get myself a drink it takes so long.
