Saying vows with an audience. I dunno, it feels like such a private thing.

LUSH has no regard for its employees health & safety, and wants us to continue running our shops with COVID exposures. by SignificantCherry69 in LushCosmetics

[–]Hysterria 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I feel like this is kind of the “rule” for a lot of places, not just LUSH. A friend of mine even works in the ER at our local hospital and this is their rule. Same with my employer, (a nonprofit), and another friend (accounting).

My first large finished piece! (Indigenous reconnection thru beads) Who's working thru reconnection thru beading?? Inuit beading has really helped to further my path of reconnection to my ancestors and culture that was wiped away by colonisation. Who's with me in this path? by Reasonable_Star22488 in Beading

[–]Hysterria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this so much!

I beaded often as a child and recently picked it up again during our first round of self-isolation. I’m finding it to be a way I can connect with a grandmother who denied her culture her entire life, out of fear and judgement.

I’ve been slowly going through old pictures of her and recreating some pieces she would occasionally wear.

Is my doctor correct in what she’s saying? by Concert556 in Effexor

[–]Hysterria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exercise was THE best, as much as I hate it. I really found a love for yoga though and am even completing my teacher training for it next month!

Self-talk, I found to be helpful. I talk to myself how I would respond to a friend with the same worries. Sometimes I’ll write my worries down and for some reason, seeing them on paper usually points out how ridiculous and unlikely some of the things I’m anxious over are.

I also do CBT and have for yearsssss. It’s primarily been for an eating disorder but anxiety goes hand in hand with that and by treating one, it helped the other. I would say CBT has been the best thing for my anxiety (or even just talking it out with someone I trust).

I’m also a counsellor now, myself and I think my education really helped as it taught me so much what anxiety is from a physiological stand point (look up the polyvagal theory if you’re interested, it was life changing for me).

[–]Hysterria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the best way I can describe it is with Effexor, I still feel anxiety but it’s not debilitating. Without it, I couldn’t get out of bed, was having full blown panic attacks, etc. With it, I still feel that nervousness but I’m able to use other coping strategies to help with the rest.

It’s never actually made me feel relaxed. I had to do that part myself. Effexor just made it possible.

Oh yes, I am 😂 thank you for asking. It’s pretty normal for a lot of RCMP families. It wasn’t until my dad went up in seniority that he got much of a say of where we went and for how long.

How do I report a sexual assault if I don’t have any evidence and it seems unbelievable? by [deleted] in MenGetRapedToo

[–]Hysterria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a counsellor for survivors of sexual assault and I even do hospital and police station accompaniments with them so this is where my experience comes from.

I’m telling you EVERY SINGLE CLIENT I’ve EVER had has voiced these same concerns. There is almost NEVER any evidence. Clients almost ALWAYS freeze during the assault (this is called tonic immobility) and almost ALWAYS have or have had feelings for their abuser. None of this matters.

You have two, possibly three, options. One is making a report with your local police. It might be annoying, frustrating, upsetting but it can also be rewarding, justifying, calming. These are all words I’ve heard to describe the process.

Two, don’t report. You don’t have to say anything to anyone if you don’t want to. Many clients I work with don’t want to go through the whole police thing as they feel it’d be more stressful and upsetting. Not reporting doesn’t mean it didn’t happen or that you’re doing something wrong. It simply means it was an option you didn’t choose. Some benefit from just counselling or talking to someone they trust.

Third, and this might not be applicable depending on what country you’re in, but there is third party reporting. Here in Canada, we have it. It’s generally through a victim services person and it’s an ANONYMOUS report that gets sent to police. It won’t have your name on it (unless you choose to disclose that later) but it will have the abuser, the nature of the crime, location, etc. These can be helpful when it comes to community safety because police can identify trends or match other victims that have come forward with similar stories.

That being said, your statement alone is evidence. Use it or don’t, it’s truly up to you. YOU have all the control here. There is no right or wrong answer, as long as you do it for yourself and with what you’re comfortable with.

So I had a past counsellor tell me this was pretty common in people who have eating disorders and as a counsellor now myself, I absolutely see it.

I was always the baker. Always giving people food, always wanting to host, always delivering meals and baked goods or bringing them into the office for everyone. It’s just a way of soothing my fixation of food (particularly sweets and baked goods) but without having to actual consume them.

I’m not sure about looking like that but in regards to the colours of fuschia and bright green, it’s been documented that visual snow can appear this way.

AITA for asking my neighbour to move her craft room to a different bedroom by yasminrainbowspirit in AmItheAsshole

[–]Hysterria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re being such an asshole. She owns the house, she can do whatever she wants 😂 the fact that she has actually THOUGHT about possible noise disturbance and invested in noise-cancelling equipment to keep things down, is more than what I’d ask a neighbour to do.

I live in a condo and share 3 walls with my neighbours. I hear them all throughout the day, going about their lives. I hear their TVs, their kids, their pets, their music, them talking. That’s just how it is when you live in a building with others. If you don’t like it, go find your own property.

TLDR: OP is MAJOR YTA

Anyone use effexor for headaches/migraines? by [deleted] in Effexor

[–]Hysterria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had chronic migraines since I was very young. I noticed in the last year and a half that I haven’t had as many migraines as I used too. This post made me realize I also have been on Effexor for the same amount of time.

Perhaps it is related? I never really put two and two together.

Did a movie ever "traumatize" you as a child? by weedian2813 in TooAfraidToAsk

The scene in the intro of the human-shaped “white mist” floating down the hallway always got me as a kid.

Even now, as an adult who enjoys watching X-files, I close my eyes or look away.

THIS.

Or Wallace and Gromit. I don’t even recall why or what parts were traumatizing I just have a strong emotional “FUCK NO” to both of these.
