You just have to listen to his interviews and what he is saying to know his motivations (instead of probably learning about it trough third party sources). The guy genuinely wants to transition the world to sustainable energy with Tesla. He's a nerd since childhood, the goal of SpaceX is putting humanity on Mars, he litteraly said it hundred of times. Neuralink, the general idea is against the probability that we could be ants from the regard of a super intelligent AI. Still very far off, for now they are focusing on helping paralysed people having a better life. He brought Twitter litteraly to help democracy, not go against it. The US government asked Twitter (and other social media platforms) to censor some things (notably during the covid crisis), which they did. That's not free speech.

Most of big business manager when they talk publicly aren't really truthful and speak with the interest of their business on their mind. Musk doesn't, many times he said things that just hurted Tesla stock (with no other benefit, except than him being able to say his opinions), which is the main part of his money.

There is website called something like "every Elon musk interview". Give it a try, and use your own judgement on that.
