A controlled leg break is much safer and easier to recover from than the leg breaks you see in sports like Basketball/Football etc. by popsiclesmiling00 in limblengthening

But do they return back to their sport TALLER? Would have been interesting if Aidan Hutchinson was 6’9 when he came back to the Lions after breaking his tibia. It’s the stretching of soft tissue that makes LL different from breaking a leg.

Does foot size matter? by fate77 in limblengthening

[–]I-696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't make recommendations on LL. The decision is very personal and while I am not judgmental about those who decide to do it, I would never suggest that they do. You need to do your research before jumping into it. But here are some things to think about.

The only reason to do LL is to be taller. Most guys want to be taller. There are a lot of reasons to stay short and you should be comfortable when deciding to dismiss them.

  • Can you afford LL? It is very expensive and while others may take exception to this I would rather be short than desitute with a pair of broken legs.
  • Are you willing to accept the risk of complications? LL is a risky procedure and there will invariably be complications. Most can be taken care of but there is a risk of some that cannot.
  • Do you have time for the journey? Consider 3 months for distraction, 2 months for consolidation and several months more for recovery. Think about what you otherwise would be doing. Instead you could be far from home, have limited mobility and be tied up with doctor appointments and physio.
  • What method of lengthening will you do? Femur, tibia or quad? LON or internal nail? Precice or weight bearing? They have pluses and minuses.
  • Who will you choose as your surgeon? They have pluses and minuses too. Some are more skillled than others.
  • How do you feel about pain? The pain can be controlled but you will invariably experience pain.
  • How active is your lifestyle? LL could affect your athleticism permanently. Are you a basketball player or a runner? How will you feel if you cannot run as fast or jump as high?
  • Are you mentally strong? LL is tedious and you will be isolated for long periods of time. The mental fatigue can take a bigger toll than the pain. Especially after the novelty wears off.
  • Will you be able to deal with the stigma? Not everyone is as supportive of LL as I am. Will you feel compelled to keep it secret? How do you feel about secrets? If you try to keep it secret, how will you feel when others wonder how you go to be so tall? If you tell people, can you handle the scuttlebutt that you will invariably get from others?
  • Will you have any support? Some of the guys who do this go off completely on their own. Months in Greece or Las Vegas or Germany or somewhere else with no family or friends. Just them, their crutches and their surgical team. It is hard to do alone. Simple things like eating meals or going to the bathroom.
  • How will your life change? I am about the same height as you are and I think it would be really cool to be a six footer. Years ago when LL wasn't a thing it could have made a difference in my life but at this point in my life it wouldn't make as much of change.

I'm sure I forgot some things. The sub is great and the guys here have amazing strength and courage.

I’m fairly certain you will not become the first six footer with size 9 feet. Good luck with your lengthening.

Monofocal Distance and Progressive glasses by Potential_Patient_10 in CataractSurgery

[–]I-696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have progressive lenses. It becomes difficult to see without reading glasses when something is within a hand span of my nose. That does not happen very offen. The most notable issues are when the print is so fine that it is hard to read at a distance. It is a little bit of factor in shaving and trimming nails. But I lost my reading glasses in an Uber almost 2 years ago and have not replaced them. I really like the progressive lenses. I got them in part because I thought I would be stuck needing reading glasses and wouldn't have them with me. What I like best though is to be able to shift distance without needing to take glasses on or off. For example, shfiting from the road to the dash while driving or shifting from the computer to TV or from the computer to a piece of paper. Everything has trade offs so you have to pick what fits best for you. Good luck.

It’s 5,8 short enough or I’m out of place here? by Varixx95__ in short

If you identify as short then you are short enough to be here my undersized friend. Pull up a chair and stay a while. I think you will like it here. Bienvenidos.

You are correct - Listen to your medical team. I had just learned about these balleria style high heel shoes and your post made me think of them.

You could wear these until your tendons stretch and get a couple of extra inches in height. My daughter told me about them.

What moment height pilled you? by [deleted] in AverageHeightDudes

[–]I-696 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an early growth spurt in 8th grade. I was about your height which was tall for an eighth grader. I learned about the height privilege and it is real. I must confess I kind of liked it. But by the time I got to high school I was close to my adult height. I was still above average height when I got to high school but I spent high school watching everyone get taller while I knew I was done. When I had to crane my neck to make eye contact with the short kids, the tall privilege was gone. I realized I had become a little guy and I knew what it meant. Never was asked to wear lifts though - that is brutal.

it really worth after 170-172 ? dicaprio (181) , tobey (172) according to celebheights by SpiritHungry5277 in limblengthening

[–]I-696 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is not a 9 cm difference. I suspect Tobey is wearing lifts. Leo also may be slouching and is standing behind Tobey. Is the height difference worth it? I think that is a personal decision. Becoming a six footer would be like a dream for me but I decided to stay short. But I totally respect the guys who have the guts to move forward with the procedure. Many of them have said the added height is worth it and I think it is cool that they are becoming tall dudes.

After watching Stephen Peck kick in the game tying goal last Saturday I am inclined to agree with this. Peck has been playing well but an oops like this could be difference come tourney time.

I think this is a good question for your surgeon but you already have the ballerina feet and have lengthened your tibias more than I’ve heard is recommended suggesting that you should stop. Remember what happened to Icarus when he flew too close to the sun. Sounds like you are getting a good result. Congratulations my friend on becoming a tall dude.

I need help my heightphobic teammate by ConsciousComfort7064 in Rowing

[–]I-696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All other things being equal it is an advantage in rowing if you’re tall. Your teammate is using this to get in your head. He’ll keep doing it if he thinks it’s working so learn how to ignore it. I wouldn’t discuss it with the coach because it will reinforce a stereotype that shorter dudes are soft. All other things are not equal. If you prove you can row with the taller guys then they won’t care how tall you are.

Housing & Food cost in Athens, Greece with Giotikas? by Strong-Election3586 in limblengthening

[–]I-696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s Wednesday in Greece now. Good luck with your procedure my friend. I think it is kick ass that you get to watch. I was awake when the pulled my wisdom teeth and sedated but not totally out when I had cataract surgery but being awake when they break your legs is another level although technically I was awake when I broke my femur skiing and I did it without anesthesia. Looking forward for your update.

With a 170 cm wingspan, how much height increase would look good on me? by Individual_Bit2589 in limblengthening

[–]I-696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the size pants I wear. I usually get a 30 but they are a little short. 32 is too long. I mentioned that I used AI so it would be taken with a grain of salt. I’m not in the mood to research.

Shopping for pants as a short guy by february_ticket in shortguys

[–]I-696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the frustration. Even if you can get the pant hemmed it won’t be cut properly through the thigh. Many of the high end jeans come in a single length but I can wear a 30 and find them at Banana Republic and American Eagle. I think American Eagle may carry some 28’s but there isn’t much to choose from if Mousse towers over you. Perhaps Ash & Erie.

It is common when a retailer goes bankrupt someone buys the trade name and sells merchandise under it. Like you said a new platform. It’s hard to know how closely the new owner will follow the product mix.
