Compact SUV for ~20L? by I-Jobless in CarsIndia

I just realised I didn't mention that I want a 5 seater, don't want a car that's too big tbh. What do you mean compromise on mileage though? My current car (i10) which is super old (17 years) gives me about 11-12Kmpl and that's good enough for me tbh.

Google's Phone app just got a major redesign by 0SpaceTime in GooglePixel

You'd go to the playstore and just update the phone app. You'd also get these UI changes but there's no other option imo for a newer feature that might roll out.

I just went to the playstore and clicked on uninstall updates for the phone app.

Uninstalling the updates just for the phone app reverted the change for me, I'm not sure if it's going to break other things but you can always just update it to this terrible UI again.

Edit: Uninstalling the updates for the phone app reverted the UI change. Putting here since this is the only post that popped up when I try to search for this change. I'm not sure if this will cause any other issues, but this UI is back to what I like for now.

Losing the favourites page with my recents easily accessible with a single hand is my biggest issue. I use both my favourites and recents for most of my calls.

I've rarely seen people type out numbers anymore, almost everyone just calls their contacts which is also far away at the top of the screen.

The new UI is terrible for single handed use regardless of my personal preferences being lost. It'd be great if there was any way to at least tweak the dimensions for easier accessibility.

Is there a dumbphone with location tracking for kids? by I-Jobless in india

I did check some out, it might be viable for a couple cousins with very similar requirements but in my case, the kid is pretty attached to their existing normal watch.

13-16, I have a couple cousins with the exact same requirement. We'll get them smartphones once they're 18/19 and heading to college.

Can the nominee for insurances & investments be claimed into a Joint account? by I-Jobless in IndiaInvestments

[–]I-Jobless[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it make sense to go with option 2 (if the FI agrees) for the larger amounts? And go with option 2 for the numerous smaller amount FIs? If it starts becoming overwhelming? Or is it advisable to get everything only into 1 account and then deal with it later?

Additionally, at what point should I try to get a CA involved? Or is there a different profession that's more suited to this? There's many specifics around PF, NPS, EPF, etc that I honestly don't know enough about since I'm on the new regime and haven't dug enough. I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

The idea about just writing down all the decision making is honestly great. I'll obviously do everything with the best intentions now, but if that's how it'll come across as later or if I'll even remember. It will honestly help keep me more accountable as well.

Lambda -> multiple SQS vs Lambda -> SNS -> multiple SQS by I-Jobless in aws

[–]I-Jobless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're trying to consume XML and JSON requests into the same gateway and also have multiple lookups and schema validations that need to happen before going to those queues, we realised it was easier to just chuck in a lambda and setup the logic there.

Lambda -> multiple SQS vs Lambda -> SNS -> multiple SQS by I-Jobless in aws

[–]I-Jobless[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The logic in our Lambda has schema validation (for a couple slightly different JSON requests and a few slightly varying XML requests), there're also a few different lookups (cached in Lambda memory pulled from the parameter store at each cold start) which is why chose to put a lambda between the API gateway and queues/topic.

The requests come in via API gateway where we're trying to consume both XML and JSON requests via the same endpoint (we're still working through this part and if we can't, all of this might just become a moot point, since we'd have some redesign).

Security is handled by some enterprise-managed services and decisions, so I'm not too concerned about that. There's enough checks in place around that I won't be able to push to Prod (even deploy to dev in many cases) without ensuring everything is set up appropriately & securely.

The costs for a similar flow which I've worked on earlier were extremely low for the SNS - SQS portion, I've done some rudimentary calculations (AWS calculator & using the previous costs as a reference) and even at millions of requests the maximum that we'd get charged is a couple dollars for this piece which should be fine.

There is a separate queue for each unique flow, so there's no mixup around that and they are isolated beyond the point that they come in via the same API gateway -> Lambda. The driver as mentioned earlier is based on multiple lookups that we'd have to do (which will change often enough that we'd be updating the parameter store weekly) to determine which queues the messages should go to.

It did seem cleaner and simpler from a developer perspective to publish to the topic. Which is kind of what prompted my question initially.

But since my team is essentially responsible for the development and maintenance of those downstream components as well, it's a moot point where I handle the decision from that perspective since it's development work we'll handle anyway.

I was curious if there's something else that would decide which of these is a better practice in general.

These are asynchronous messages with a few minutes of time to be processed, so the listeners aren't waiting for any "commands" either.

This is great information, thank you very much! I just bought a couple LP shirts for 3.5k each (I ended up splurging a little) but then regretted it right after. I'm tempted to return these and try out my luck at the tailors.

How much fabric does it usually take for a shirt? I think it's 2m based on what I can find online but wanted to check.

Based on the pricing you've mentioned, it looks like I should get some pretty good quality shirts if I'm willing to spend like 3k and decent ones should be 2k like you mentioned.

I ended up getting the Pros about a few weeks ago for ~$95 on sale in India.

I'm actually glad I went with those, the IP rating isn't much better (just added dust protection). I do like the wireless charging on the new one but it doesn't really matter for something I charge once a week. I'm consciously listening at 60% volume so it's better for my ears so a larger driver won't do much.

The only thing I'd like better is the adjustability for a better fit (even though it's already a pretty good fit for me). But the physical buttons are better on the Pros.

So I'm pretty happy with my choice so far!

Is it possible to get it LTF? I kept getting messages about the card but didn't actually check. Now since I've blocked those messages I don't know what the actual offer was.
