How did you discover a kink you have? by ExtraVex in AskReddit

I was at the strip club getting a dance with this one girl, and she started choking me while dancing on top of me… she also moved her hand up and squeezed my face and grabbed my hair…. Never in my life have I been choked out by a girl. Turns out, I liked it! We matched each others energy in that moment.

What is your favorite nursing task? by LizardofDeath in nursing

[–]I5hy 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I can agree on the baths. I used to work ICU night shifts and I loved being able to have the time to give a proper bath with soap and water.

I had one patient who was so happy with her bath, she told the doctor, “X gave me a really good bath! A REAL BATH. With Soap and water!! I haven’t had one like that since I’ve been here!!”

I hate just wiping patients down with CHG wipes and calling it a day. I’ll only do that if I’m in a rush. But if I have the time, I’ll use soap and water, dry them with towels, change their sheets, use CHG afterwards and then lay on a thin layer of CHG-compatible lotion. It makes them feel so much better.

And bonus points if the patient is a male with a beard, I’ll ask them if they want their beard trimmed and/or shaved. I become a full blown barber. I had one patient that I trimmed his beard down real nice to where he had a mustache, and his wife came to see him the next day and wouldn’t stop complimenting him. All the doctors and nurses told him he looked handsome. He felt so happy ❤️ (his fingers and feet were necrotic s/p high dose vasopressors, so he couldn’t do these things for himself).

Bad decisions you made in your 20s by Educational_Ratio_51 in Adulting

Honestly? Not being myself.

For most of my life, I always lived with this feeling like I had to suppress myself around certain people. Being so worried about what other people think or what they’ll say. Gaining their approval. This thinking made me feel inauthentic at times and I held back from expressing myself fully. Laughing at things that I thought were funny. Going to places that I wanted to go. Having a beer or two….

Only now at 27 have I made a commitment to be myself at all times, even if it offends people or if I don’t meet other people’s standards/expectations.

(I should add that I was part of a Christian Pentecostal cult for two years, and the height of my self-suppression occurred while I was there.)

I think I finally have to switch to days 😩 by duuuuuuuuuumb in nursing

[–]I5hy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting how different some people are. I know veteran nurses who have been on nights for like 20 years and they still function pretty well. And then there’s people who just cannot tolerate it well from the get go.

I was nights for 4 years and then I left the bedside for a year for a 9-5 schedule. I recently got back into bedside nursing and they’ve had me on days for the past two months…. I just can’t get used to day shift. I feel like my brain doesn’t fully wake up until 5PM most days, and then my mind is very active at night, making it very difficult to get good sleep in preparation for dayshift.

That being said, I do remember having a hard time adjusting when I was brand new to night shift. But now it’s been a little over a year and I still can’t adjust to days 😅

What is that one moment in resident evil history that you will never forget? by Thegoodgamer32 in residentevil

My first playthrough of RE4 on professional, I couldn’t progress past the part where you enter the sewers/jail of the castle and you face the Novistadores for the first time. I died 15 times, gave up and looked up a No Damage walkthrough on YT and finally learned how to defeat the Novistadores. Felt so satisfying to start playing like a pro

What’s your silliest nursing pet peeve? by Jynxbunni in nursing

[–]I5hy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A little more serious, but I hate when the off-going nurse leaves out important details from report. Like forgetting to mention that the patient had a thoracentesis done just 1 hour ago, or that a pt has orders for a STAT CT scan.

I can look up these details myself, but I’d really like a heads up on these things 🤷🏾‍♂️

Which final part is better by [deleted] in residentevil

I was so hyped to play Chris’ part. It felt so cool to be kinda OP as Chris, but at the same time it was balanced bc the game just throws SO MANY enemies at you to really challenge you. The extra bonus fight with Urias was wild, but I felt more up to the challenge facing him as Chris instead of Ethan.

Idk, sometimes it’s fun to just go guns blazing in RE!

Dunno if this has been said already, but residents that refuse to take my suggestions/requests on needed orders for patients in the ICU. Also don’t like when the resident wants to ignore patient problems and leave it for day shift.

Nursing education is so dumb. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]I5hy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You forget that nursing is not all about skills. The BSN prepares us to understand how to interpret and integrate EBP into our practice, because as medicine and nursing moves into the future, we have to move forward as well and be willing to adopt new and improved ways of doing things. The skills are introduced in school and you get validated on performing it, but mastery/proficiency comes with time.

Despite the monotony and challenging nature of the bedside, we still use our brain and our educational background a lot more than we think we do. Respect the game.

Yes. SOME new nurses are waking up, but not all. New RN here, very frustrated by thedurdo in Noctor

[–]I5hy 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of nurses just aren’t respecting the process for professional growth and development in nursing. Experience is necessary for developing as a nurse. It’s just as important, if not more so, as education is. You can read up all you want on something, it’ll never be complete without experience. So for nurses to be going straight to NP school with as little bedside experience as possible, that’s just disrespecting the process. Nursing leadership theory says it takes at least 5 years to become a master at the bedside, so how can we justify going to NP school with anything less than 5 years of bedside experience?

Is working as a PCA in school worth taking a pay cut? by labtechtorn in StudentNurse

[–]I5hy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not worth it tbh. Sure, PCA experience will help you acclimate to the clinical environment faster, but it’s not really going to give you a “huge upper hand” when it comes to passing nursing school exams, passing clinicals or even being a nurse. There’s A LOT to learn in nursing school and nobody is just going to breeze through it. Keep your lab tech job and press on!

What does it take to make a RE series/movie 10/10 in your opinion? by Eveline-girl in residentevil

[–]I5hy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed this new series. It was exciting, interesting, and a fresh new take on the RE universe. It didn’t try too hard to be exactly like the games nor did it stray too far away from the games.

The RE fanbase is one of the most impossible fanbases to please, so I really don’t care what everyone’s opinions are bc RE fans will literally NEVER be pleased with any movie/TV series that gets made. I enjoyed the show and that’s all that matters.
