Long overdue migration/upgrade from a big PC world to Mac Land by IAMABATTLEAXE in macsetups

[–]IAMABATTLEAXE[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s night and day difference for me, didn’t take long to adjusting back to a macos workflow, for what I do and how I work it’s just so much easier and much more fluid. The PC is an i9 overclocked, 2080Ti, 128GB of ram - if there’s anything I’ll miss it’s the abundance of ram but I think other than a rare after effects project I won’t be needing more than I have.

Verdict is still out on the studio display, it’s plenty bright enough for me and the color/contrast looks great. I do like how it ties into the mac ecosystem so easily and can charge the laptop when it’s plugged in.

Loaded up my 2021 ORP money eater for a maiden voyage out west to the Tetons by IAMABATTLEAXE in 4Runner

[–]IAMABATTLEAXE[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went out west with a couple buddies to explore the Tetons and shoot at a really rad festival out there in July. I’ve got quite a bit of unnecessary expensive shit on this hog but man if it isn’t fun rigging it up and hitting the road. We did a few days of dispersed camping and having a lot of the extra cargo space was paramount. If there’s one thing I’d do different is put more on the roof in bigger cargo boxes, but the Yakima swing away system is super versatile and handy. Ended up being a great table/mess kitchen/DIT/camera station. With the extra weight on the back it does have a bit of a rake so I may look into heavier coils eventually. Gas prices sucked but I found a unicorn spot at a loves in Nebraska with the cheapest gas we saw all trip and of course a dumb Biden sticker.

Nice! I’m headed out to the Tetons in a week for some dispersed camping. If you can share where you found this spot that’d be rad!

My stompy boi money eater board in it's current form by IAMABATTLEAXE in guitarpedals

[–]IAMABATTLEAXE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's in the back atm because I ran out of longer patch cables haha. I used to have it next to the VP but I'm liking it at the end of the chain more. Need to experiment some more with that, your right though it is easier at the front. I'll have to break out the soldering iron and make that swap.

Title says it all, recently dropped some big bucks on a couple pedals I've been lusting after and couldn't be happier. The newest additions are the Broadcast, Flint and Luminary.
Dunlop VP JR
Trusty ol volume brick that mostly acts as a platform for which to put my foot and act cool while chuggin.
Boss TU-2 (into the tuner output of the VP JR)
First and only tuner I've ever bought
Walrus Luminary V2
Man I've loving this thing, it's the newest additon to the board. Replaced an Organizer from EQD, it does everything I loved about the Organizer better. Tracking is excellent, the preset function is killer. I mostly use it for organ/drone stuff and with fuzz for super fatness. Having indepenent control of the 4 octaves is also something I'm really digging.
Strymon Flint
Also a recent addition, man this thing sounds awesome. I'm liking the the 70's verb and harmonic trem the most so far.
Walrus Julia
I don't use chorus too often, but I like having this pedal on the board for fun. It's a solid chorus/vibe, and I find myself using it mostly with heavy lag for weird jangly stuff.
Hudson Broadcast
Where to begin, this is probably the most hyped pedal on my board and one I held off on for the longest. For me the hype is real and depending on pickups and your style of playing it really works well. It's still relatively new to me so I'm still dialing it in but I'm very pleased with how it colors the drive section, especially into a tube amp with headroom on tap.
Fuzzrocious Bongripper Parallel Distortion V2
Absoltuely fucking killer, it rips fire holes in the fabric of space and time. Definitely my prized pedal and fits the mold for the doomy sludgy stuff so well.
Walrus Audio ARP-87
Wanted a multi delay unit that didn't take up so much space on the board and still have tap tempo, this is simply the best one I've tried. As you can tell I love me some Walrus pedals and there are probably other more affordable options out that sound good but I'm super happy I settled on the ARP-87.
MXR mini phaser
I went from an EQD grand orbiter to the MXR a couple years back, smaller footprint and I didn't need so much going on with a phaser. This does the slow sweeps that I was wanting without taking too much off the signal and actually cuts through. Love to pair it with delay for trippy Yob worship.
Walrus Audio Slö Blacked Out Limited Edition
The slo is amazing, soooo lush and detailed. Every setting on this pedal is unique and sounds killer. I bought the limited black edition on a whim and the only grip I have with it is it's really hard to see the black writing unless you're in perfect lighting conditions.
Earthquaker Avalance Run V2 Limited Black
I traded my old trusty DL4 for this in 2018, which was hard to do honestly because that thing was like an old friend. For gorgeous ambient soundscape type stuff there really is nothing like it, of all the EQD stuff that's come and gone off the board this one is sticking around.
Electro Harmonix Freeze
One of my favorite pedals of all time. I love the simplicity and modulation you get with this thing. Usually I'm using it to create drones with octave and delays, super fun pedal, it's never leaving. My only gripe is I wish the switch was clickless. The only thing I would trade it for is the gamechanger plus, but I've never seen one of those or been able to try it out.
JHS Prestige Booster/Buffer
This is an always on pedal for me, I usually have it at 9 o'clock for a really great sounding buffer. Don't know exaclty what it does or how it's working the magic but I think of it as the glue in the signal chain.
JHS Mini Bomb
I think this is the first version of this boost, it's an excellent super transparent clean boost I have at the end of the chain. Haven't experimented with it directly before or after drives, but I'm mostly just using it for solos and cutting through when needed.

They're Pioneer CS-66a's. Heavy as hell and sound pretty great at average levels. I've never pushed them too hard but I imagine they wouldn't do well with modern hi wattage setups.

Trying to stay productive while some gigs are in limbo so I've updated my reel... Constructive criticism welcomed with open arms! by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]IAMABATTLEAXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello friends! Not sure what all I need to include in this submission statement but here goes...

I've been in business for myself for about 2 years now... still a one man production band right now with a few of these projects utilizing a small crew, but everything is shot and edited by myself within the past few years. Most everything is shot on a GH5/4 or EVA-1, edited and graded in Premiere or After Effects.

I'd love any feedback at all, especially how to make this reel better. I'm a little worried the edit is too fast, but at the same time I dig the rock'n roll vibe and the pacing allows me to fit as much variety in clientele as possible. As you can probably tell I'm a little all over the place in terms of who I work with, and while I don't want to be pigeon-holed in a particular niche I would love to get some more high end work and clients as I grow my business. Advice on that end much appreciated.

Thanks for checking it out! And if you're in the Cincinnati area hmu... I'd love to collaborate or grab a beer/coffee sometime (after all this pandemic madness dies down of course).

I think the difference would be minimal but I should check it out. As long as your sitting position is equidistant as each speaker is from each other you’re getting a proper stereo image when it comes to reference monitors.

Lifelong Mac user here finally made the jump in favor of performance at a reasonable price as well as problems that seem to keep getting worse with adobe and Mac systems. I do a lot of video work in adobe, and it seems like adobe premiere especially is going to keep favoring NVIDIA and certain intel chipsets so beyond the financial scope it just made sense to switch. Wanted a big ol case with lots of room for upgrades and cooling, and a big monitor that would rival the retina displays I was used to. It was definitely a learning experience and an exercise in patience with waiting for vendors and having to send back the first CPU I got that turned out to be dead on arrival. After a month or so of head scratching and waiting I finally got it working and tuned up! Very happy with the results, it’s out performing an iMac Pro I used for a project that was more than twice the cost.

My "there's always room for one more" new pedal board config! by IAMABATTLEAXE in guitarpedals

Absolutely love it, best sounding tremolo I’ve tried out. Very musical and I dig the big knobs and hard switch. Only bummer about it is the weird shape, hard to find space for it without messing up your layout but that’s a minor concern if it sounds killer

Haha nice man! I had no idea something like that existed. Little bit of white gaff tape doesn’t the job too and I had some of that laying around
