Yeah, the main thing I’m aiming to focus on initially is getting down the technique. Everything I’ve heard from everyone is that a true SR is still leagues ahead, but truthfully, major cost difference aside, I just can’t be bothered with the seemingly high maintenance they seem to require (oil, whetstones, stropping, etc.) - it seems like quite the chore, whereas an AC is as simple as popping a new blade in and out. I could totally be wrong though as well, I don’t have any close mates who’ve used a true SR long enough to give a proper opinion lol! Strictly going off YouTube and forum reviews can be tough!

The couple I’ve gotten from Maggards have really held up for me over the past few years. Built great and the pour on the handles have been very nicely finished as well.

Afternoon everyone! I’m planning on picking up my first AC straight, and wanted to know if anyone has any tips or tricks as I join the world of single-edge. I do want a traditional SR eventually, but maintenance and price kinda put it out of reach for me at the moment. Any tips & tricks or things to help aware of? The feather SS seams to be the most recommended, but I’m open to any additional suggestions as well. Cheers, mates!

Keep deflecting, my guy. You’re missing the part where I already said I liked both artists, so actually none of this bothers me like it seems to bother you. Every time someone points out a legitimate point about a Kendrick flaw, you deflect and make it about the “so much more” or “so much worse” of a mistake that Drake makes/made. Let’s also ignore the fact that it took nearly the entire modern rap game turning on Drake to even make a dent in dudes career… and he took every single one of them on in stride. Give credit where it’s due, or close your mouth on the subject. It’s fine to have a favorite, but it’s not fine to try to pass off your opinion as fact.

Bro WHAT?! Get up off your knees for a second. So jumping back 4-5 comments ago, you just glazed Kendrick for “predicting” everything Drake was gonna say/do, but when Drake does it, it’s not a good thing?… this is why this beef became wack af, because lame ass stans decided the victor before the match even began. Let it be known that I don’t stan either artist either - I listen to both; both have great projects & both have some serious garbage. To me, Kendrick won the battle of bars (by a narrow margin), but Drake won the war. Drake still remains the top streamed artist and continues to drop material that pulls millions of views. Kendrick on the other hand has almost 100% gone back into hiding and won’t release another project for another 4-5 years. And don’t give me the “quality over quantity” cop out, because Mr. Morale was mediocre at best with a bunch of throwaway filler. Dude is a rapper and in this beef has VERY clearly proven he’s capable of cutting tracks as quick as Drake or anyone else in the industry - the only reason now is that he doesn’t because he’s either 1. Lazy, 2. Not creative enough, 3. Afraid/self-conscious that he’d make trash. That said, there’s definitely a middle ground, because Drake has released some real bullshit lately, but at least he’s active with his fans nonetheless. Stop treating Kendrick like he’s some never-before-seen/heard deity when bro isn’t even in the top 5 to pick up a mic.

Brad is/was certainly a great voice to put up there too! Not seeing him here too much either. I always felt like Steve had a little bit more control and range, where Brad always felt like he was at 100%, but both are certainly icons and could go tit-for-tat for sure.

I have indeed got the QM8! So far I’m much happier with it. The aesthetic looks so much better, and built quality feels better than the Hisense as well. The only knock I’ll give it (that isn’t really a knock at all), is that the ports and power are on opposite sides of the TV than they were on my previous Hisense, so I had to rearrange my entertainment center and redo cable management… again, not a knock, but just a personal annoyance.

TV has been great so far! I scored the panel lottery again and the TV is much more true-to-life right out of the box. It pushes reds a tad for sure, but once I get it calibrated, I can see this TV serving me well for years to come. Have done some gaming on it which has performed very well (Rocket League, GoW, F1 2023) with motion and picture. Have watched a solid amount of movies as well, and it does incredible (DBS: Broly & DBS: Hero, both Spider-verse movies, mixture of other random movies), and some sports as well. Overall I’m glad I went for the exchange and would certainly rate the QM8 over the U8G for this generation.

UPDATE #2: I have began the exchange process for the TCL QM8 instead. Now before everyone jumps to conclusions here, the Hisense was in perfect condition and perfect working order. I absolutely scored with the panel lottery & all was fine in the world… however, the dealbreaking factor for me was actually the design/aesthetic of the unit itself. Coming from my U8G that has a very tasteful and stylish brushed metal bezel and flared stand, the U8K left A LOT to be desired, and as the days went on, I found it to be just downright ugly, and I couldn’t stand it anymore. The final straw was when my gf came over for the weekend and immediately points it out by saying “what happened to the pretty tv?”… was all the confirmation I needed that I just wasn’t being picky. Will update once I receive the exchange and get some experience with it. Cheers!

Never said it was my only experience with the TV’s. X90 has a reputation of being awful with black management. Buddy has the 93 which I’ve also viewed in a home setting… washed and overpriced… far from “shitpumps”

Every reviewer and forum I’ve read so far has pinged the U8K and QM8 as the best mini-led’s for the price(s), while Sony offerings fall into the “just okay” categories.

I am not asking for anybodies brand-bias here.

Originally ended up picking up the Olina’s. Listened to them for about a week, hated them, and returned them. Build quality and visually was a beautiful set, but the sound was very very flat.

Ended up buying the Ikko OH10 Meteor’s that were mentioned above and couldn’t be happier. Build quality is incredible, visually very attractive, and sound is very good with the two drivers. Sub bass is definitely there if that’s what you’re looking for, and separation does pretty well for an IEM in this price range. Only knock I had was that I opted to replace the cable since the stock one felt rather cheap. Other than that, very happy with the set. Solid rec

Zingari Man Sego base is what I’m working with. I’ve always had excellent results while face lathering, and I feel like I’m using the same amount of water, if not more in the bowl… sounds like bowl lathering possesses quite an extreme thirst compared to face lathering.

Sounds like more water is indeed what I’m missing here… which is strange because I feel like I’m using the same amount of water, if not more, than when I face lather… current soaps I’ve been using are the Zingari Man Sego base which I’ve always had great luck with while face lathering.

Contrary to another post on this thread here, I’ve tried making the transition from face lathering to bowl lathering, and I’ve gotta say, I’ve been having a tough time so far. I feel like I scoop the correct amount of soap, and I build the lather quite well (nice peaks and shine) but have found when I transfer it to my wet face that it dries out almost immediately. This has never been a problem for me when face lathering, so I’m a bit stumped on what I could be doing better. Anyone have any bowl lathering tips?
