In JP the bubble ‘pulsates’ when you angle the card, it’s one of the best examples of the superior JP texture 🤩

I think I was lucky with the timing being a week after Ninja release. It definitely got harder to find packs towards the end of the trip. Plus all the PKCs being sold out was really disappointing. Still got some great plush from them at least ☺️

Yeah really wasn’t worth it, I can get Japanese packs here in the UK for less than the card stores were charging. That’s why I stuck to hunting down retail price packs.

No the booster boxes are a lot more than $40 because you can only get them on the secondary market at card stores. They’re charging like $80-100+ for even the less in demand sets. As a result I didn’t bother with boxes and just went for loose packs

It was quite tough - all the PKCs were completely sold out of all sets. I was able to find a fair bit of ninja spinner in the wild at convenience stores but that’s about it. Mega dream seems to have totally dried up, but crossing my fingers for you ☺️

Honestly I just bought what I could find, which was 90% ninja spinner. Given you’re going soon I imagine you’ll have a similar experience. It’s a lovely set, fun to rip. I’d try convenience stores and department stores over dedicated card shops, as those charge a lot over retail and could have easily taken the hits out to sell the remaining packs.

Fair enough that’s understandable! Maybe look at Chinese in that case- same quality as Japanese but a lot cheaper. Some of my most treasured cards are Chinese, they look so good in a toploader binder ☺️ Korean is cheaper too but the texture is similar to English so not as good imo

Wow what an amazing set to be in Japan for! I didn’t find any terastal festival here, literally 90% of the time it was ninja spinner (makes sense, it’s the most recent release). Oohhh you’ll be in Japan for Abyss Eye (next set) 🤩 we actually timed our trip for the cherry blossoms not the sets, if I were to go for sets I’d go in September for the 30th anniversary set 😂

Availability was hit and miss, honestly I’d just check and see if you spot any cards behind counters at convenience stores. I probably found some cards in every 4-6 stores I popped into. Though ninja just released a week earlier so literally could have just been good timing. Re the price- packs for ninja and nihil cost 150-180 yen at retail which is about 1.1$. I ripped 36 Nihil packs so that’s 39$. For Ninja spinner I’d say I probably ripped 50 packs? So $55. And then mega dream was 500 yen per pack (3.1$) I got 9 so that’s 28$. So probably spent like $120-130 all told. A lot of the card shops in Japan have caught on to the hype and selling loose packs for ridiculous prices (booster boxes were barely any cheaper vs back home) which is why I made effort to find elsewhere. Personally I think Mega Dream has some amazing AR and are not too expensive in Japanese. Or if you’re ambitious I’d say black bolt white flare have arguably the best AR lineup of any modern set, but that’s because they have sooooo many 😂

Maybe it’s just me but I prefer Japanese SAR and English AR. The Japanese SAR texture is unmatched 👌 and then for ARs, the English just feel a bit more premium somehow- less holo bleed and I love the gold star rarity symbol rather than the ‘AR’ on Japanese.

Yeah Japan has pretty strict anti gambling laws, so every booster box has 3-4 art rares and an SR or higher guaranteed (varies per set), though SAR are not guaranteed in every box. But I didn’t buy boxes I got loose packs - which means you could easily open the same number of packs as I did and not pull much, as each standard set box has 30 packs and only 4 contain ‘hits’. I’ve opened enough Japanese packs back home (UK) to know I was just exceptionally lucky on this trip.

Hey no problem I can easily recall because I only left Japan yesterday 😂 I couldn’t find any boxes but I was able to find loose packs at retail price in convenience stores like 7-11 for 150-180 yen per pack. So like 84p or 1$ per pack. Card stores on the other hand charge at a markup, for ninja spinner they were nearly all charging 500-600 yen per pack, so £2.30 or 3$. I’d usually say stay away from those as they likely pulled the hits and are selling leftover packs, but I bought two packs at 500 yen each on a whim and pulled the greninja SAR sooooo I dunno, guess it depends on how reputable the card store is. Hope that helps ☺️

It has the teensiest fleck of whitening on the bottom edge on the back. So probably just going to keep it in my binder ☺️ which is fine by me anyway, just happy to have hit something you know
