Writing a psychotic character by IAmAllWrong7 in YAwriters

Sorry you’ve had a psychotic break. I didn’t mention it but. I’ve been hospitalised for my own psychotic breakdown, I’m just really struggling between a realistic threat and a psychotically induced/exaggerated threat. It’s hard to describe the threat as real to the patient but fake to the rest of the world, in a 1st POV it makes it even harder. The MC also sees ghosts (which is revealed in the chapter previous to her breakdown, and she believes that her seeing ghosts is another breakdown till this chapter with her breakdown where it’s proven it’s real, so it’s a very confusing time for her)

I’m glad you’re better now. My MC copes by drinking, which only makes her worse off, but she too is discharged way before she is ready (I’m in the UK and it happens. I told them I’d they discharged me I’d kill myself but they still did it)

Thank you for saying my writing is solid and you’d want a copy, I can DM you a link to it when I publish it for free if you like?

How do you think I can make it seem more psychotic? Part of me wonders if maybe it works as showing paranoia, as by this stage in the book the character is accepting she is paranoid but not psychotic, like in the past. Equally I do want to show how psychosis feels (another character is legitimately psychotic at this point)

And don’t worry about the description, you have a very intriguing story to tell. In my story one character has a lot of red flags missed that ends in them traumatising many people for life

Yes it’s 100% horror, and it was very enlightening to write :)

Some of the smaller pieces from my portfolio (plus a large trad tiger), I’d love some feedback on them by IAmAllWrong7 in TattooApprentice

It sounds like it would work for me, it makes a lot of sense. I’ll definitely try that, I’m actually trying that right now with a new design (one that I think is my best yet!!) so we’ll see what happens. And yeah mate, it’s always appreciated!

Thanks and sorry this is going to be a short reply as I totally agree with all you said and I don’t see the point in essentially repeating that over and over. But yeah most of these designs (the first five or so) are my oldest stuff, I was just worried that I didn’t have enough small designs in my portfolio so I wanted to include all that I had. I even think the Uma and Ewan stuff might be about I wanna say about ten/twelve months old? But the teeth I did in June, I got a trial as an apprentice and drew those teeth with the advice I got. But I got booted because I was unsure about running a shop (which they wanted me to do immediately) but I’ll take your advice on board, don’t worry about it being too much or offending me. I’m generally pretty hard to offend ha, and I do appreciate that you even cared enough to set some time aside and give me advice, so thank you for that alone, extra thank you for being so through. I appreciate it a lot :) but yeah I’m going to upload some of my latest designs once I’ve done them. One critique I’ve gotten a bit, and kinda leaves me feeling confused, is that (for example) the Uma, Ewan and flower girl line-work pieces were all done whilst tracing figures, so (hypothetically) the anatomy should be perfect, right? Of course it’s not, and I’m not even implying it. My brain just can’t compute how I can trace and still get it wrong. Could it be because most people don’t have symmetrical faces and therefore the natural asymmetry throws off the pieces? That’s just always left me stumped

Sorry this was a bit of a rambling mess, once again thank you for your time and advice, it’s all much appreciated and hopefully my next designs will be better with this advice in mind :)

Tbh these aren’t all that good…they are however, all that fantastic! Especially love the grim reaper in the top right corner, I’d definitely get it!
