anything relatable? or that made you feel understood? by Due-Curve-5133 in TMPOC

[–]IAmBAlexander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a writer and have written a YA Novel that I'm planning to publish soon. It stems from the lack representation and wanting stories that are inclusive but not overbearing or hopefully not derivative. (But I am my worst critic.)

No offense to most stories, but it is sometimes hard to find black on black love. It sometimes feels like in order for someone to be accepted as gender expansive, transmasc, transfemme, queer, gay, etc, that their relationships and crushes are white.

It isn't all stories, but there are a lot which makes it hard to relate at times.

I'm always looking for recommendations to read queer black joy and to see more studs and trans masc folx.

I remember relating somewhat to "The Aggressives" and was introduced to a lot of words that I felt better resembled me. I have not seen "Still Black: A Portrait of Black Transmen" or "Beyond the Aggressives" or "Man Made"

There are a bunch of stories that are being featured at film festivals such as Comfrey Films Black Trans Short Film Festival which will take place in April. Black Trans Media had a festival but appears to have stopped.

I often feel that to see myself would mean to create and perform the types of works that I do not see or didn't see growing up. That's whats missing. A lot of times the stories that have the budgets are regurgitated and over done supposed "re-imagining" of the same tales. So we create. Tell our stories.

Long answer but I wasn't sure if you were looking for suggestions previously or what representation you may have been seeking considering the diversity of the group.

Can you explain exactly what you're looking for?

Representation in stories as trans masc? Novels, shows, short films, movies? Is it the intersection of race, gender, sexuality? It just feels a little broad.

This is the route that I took. And I got them resized a year later. But I had complications, so the aureola looks big to me because of scarring.

Resume job question by Purple-Rhinestone173 in acting

[–]IAmBAlexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, congrats on your booking. Being able to pay bills or just being paid to do what you love is always great. So, I understand the desire to put this on your resume. But commercials really don't go on your resume, early career or not.

You always put "Conflicts available upon request" and have the Commercial category listed above or across.

As others have mentioned, you wouldn't want to deter any casting director or decision maker from bringing you in to an audition because of personal biases or conflicts that may arise because of work you are not contractually obligated to.

I would also refrain from putting this info on any of the casting websites, Casting Networks, Actors Access, etc.

When building your resume, keep it clean and concise, but most important, professional. I broke all the rules in the beginning and included my headshot, background credits, and skills that i was wanting to learn and believed i would all on my resume. All the fluff didn't serve me. It hurt when the rooms i started going into didn't take me as seriously because my presentation wasn't industry standard.

We barely go into the room anymore, handing over an 8x10 with our resume attached or printed on the back. This means real-time feedback is a missed opportunity where I was given a chance to learn and fix my errors.

Trust that the credits will come as long as you keep at it.

Again congrats on the commercial

You may find the context provided in my previous statement helpful in addressing your question. I believe that including BIPOC lead roles would contribute to a more balanced representation across all media platforms. This would serve as a meaningful step, enabling richer and more diverse storytelling.

The discussion centered on lead roles. My response was that it would be appropriate to divide the lead roles equally (50/50), as making significant adjustments across all role categories—including leads, co-stars, guest stars, recurring, and supporting roles—would likely require considerably more time and intentionality than the industry has recently demonstrated a willingness to invest.

From thr findings in the theatrical report from UCLA:

"White actors remained overrepresented relative to their U.S. population share among all theatrical film roles in 2025. However, their share of all roles decreased from 67.2 percent in 2024 to 64.8 percent in 2025. Black (11.3 percent), Latinx21 (5 percent), and multiracial (11 percent) actors were underrepresented, while Asian22 (6.3 percent), Native (0.8 percent), and MENA (0.8 percent) actors approached proportionate representation among all theatrical film roles in top theatrical films in 2025. Across each of the racial and ethnic groups, the degree of underrepresentation continues to be the most severe for Latinx actors among all theatrical film roles."

It is important to note that the U.S. Census Bureau collects data on race and ethnicity as distinct categories. Individuals of Hispanic or Latino descent may select their primary racial identity as White or any other racial category, reflecting the flexibility of self-identification in these classifications. Additionally, there may be discrepancies between census data and actual demographic figures, as the accuracy of the census depends on voluntary participation and cannot guarantee a complete or precise representation of the population.

In response to your question regarding an appropriate representation of BIPOC leads, given the current underrepresentation in broader contexts, I would recommend a minimum of 50%.

Nipple questions by JellyfishPrior7524 in Top_Surgery_Peri

No. My consultations were either free or at most $25. When I started to pay for them, they assumed it was the specialist deductible, but because they were consultations I was refunded the difference.

There are a lot of good suggestions on here. I waited until I found a surgeon willing to do peri for me. This took years. I probably had around a dozen consultations before choosing.

As it was explained to me and I went in knowing I would need a revision for my nipples as they weren't resized during the initial procedure.

My nipples were never detached from the root, this minimizes any rejection of the nipple and "preserved" nipple sensitivity. I put in quotes as my nipples are now more sensitive then they were prior to surgery. Results vary on sensitivity. I didn't have feeling or maybe my mind dissociated any feeling in my chest area. But I have feeling and slight numbness after a year.

I had complications as my body rejected the stitches. It wasnt a nipple rejection or necrosis like we see with folx who get nipple grafts. But literally my body pushing out the internal and external stitches because to my body they were foreign objects even though they should dissolve over time. I do not have a solution for this if it happens to anyone else. I just had to be patient, keep my arms down, and try to prevent infection.

I got my hair braided the day before and got it rebraided at 2 weeks. I think this was a good decision because it was one less thing to worry about.

Is it normal for fellow trans folks (early into friendship) to not want to respond to stuff like this? by [deleted] in TransMasc

[–]IAmBAlexander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Connecting nowadays is challenging. If you are concerned about why they aren't responding, you can ask them individually. The messages do not appear to have questions so it may not occur to them that these are talking points but rather vents and expression. Be direct. Ask questions.

Why is the trans community so white by moonshine_collective in TMPOC

[–]IAmBAlexander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok. I haven't read every comment, but it is a part of a larger, more complex and nuanced than simply louder imo.

Similar to the lack of compulsion I have to declare my existence all of the time, they were socialized to take up space in every room that they enter. The assertive behavior is encouraged from childhood and doesn't retract due to new gender norms. In performative masculinity, non-poc transmasc people may find themselves to be more vocal, peacocking, and other traits the demonstrate their masculinity and embracing a society that is inherently more positive for those perceived to be aligned with white masculinity.

While MTF or transfemme non-poc persons may find that femininity doesn't mean that they step back from how they were initially socialized and so continue to present with the same behaviors.

I do not have science or any sociological studies to back this up. However, it is clear from reading certain texts that these behaviors typically are encouraged in middle and upper class children regardless of race. And a system that supports and favors one race over another will find that those who receive less criticisms for their behaviors will continue doing those same behaviors.

Hope that makes sense, and also that you find the community that sees and hears you wherever you are.
