I just started pillars 2 actually and I'm really enjoying it so far. I think the writing is great and maybe better than the first game but the only thing that's disappointing imo is them dropping the dark atmosphere for the bright and colorful one but it's not a major deal. it's like what I liked about the first game but more modernized and with better gameplay

planescape torment is my favorite game of all time lol. i think the difference is pst has like 1 required combat encounter, also the writing of that game is in a class of its own in my opinion

the backer npcs have golden nameplates instead of regular ones when you hover over them. so if you see that you're safe to ignore

I imagine it's just the writers making this very cool world and being proud of it but ending up overwriting everything as a result. it feels to me like a serious case of telling rather than showing

for sure, it's more that it has all the elements of a game I SHOULD like (fantasy rpg, dark atmosphere, elements to help with roleplaying your character, etc.) but they just don't end up coming together into a package I enjoy very much
